I have quite a few different Sonic books:

I also have the Where's Wally style book, but I can't find it at the moment.

I have all the MT books. Loved them as a kid, but haven't read them in ages. The stories were classic Sonic goodness. There wasn't much that I enjoyed reading back then, but those I sure did. I remember doing a book report on one of them in elementary school once and bringing in my Sonic costume... I couldn't pronounce the darn author's last name, though.

I have most of the other American books from that era as well, but I didn't pick those up until recently on eBay.

I had the first one on the list, and I think it's still intact over at my grandparents' house. I'll see if it's over there next time I'm there. Might transcribe it onto the internet for posterity/nostalgia.

What is it about Sonic eyes that make people so fucking retarded at drawing shit?

I mean, really now. You don't see people fucking up Mario so that his mustache is placed on his chin, or the bridge of his nose or some other shit.

Well, I highly doubt DSS was meant to be a "serious" render.
I've come to the conclusion it was taking potshots at all the crappy art on books and magazines.

That amercanized Sonic CD art on 'Sonic The Story' is really cool. I've never seen it before.

    MIDI-to-SMPS-conversions, mostly. Takin' requests, too.
Looks actually pretty familiar to me... maybe on Sonic Gems Collection, on of those thingies? o.o'

Learn yourself a meme. Not particularly SFW.

I do like that Americanized SCD art...

It's based on Sonic offical art from Japan.

That'd definately explain why it looks good despite the americanized style.

I found a better picture at Amazon. It's a bit blurry though.

Yeah, his face looks a bit softer, something more EU/Jap oriented than US, though the spikes and face are still delimited from one another. I always preferred the first, but that can be according to which the person grew up with.

His eyes on the US CD cover have no excuse though.

That picture of CD is a variation of this one:
