Any indication of deluxe edition upgrade for Sonic X Shadow Generations?

Can you get a refund of the standard edition, then just buy the deluxe?

 

not quite what he was asking, i don't think. he wants to know if the standard physical copy can buy whatever dlc comes with the digital deluxe edition, or if you have to buy the digital deluxe edition to get *any* of the dlc

 

I dont think there is any official answer but im fairly certain all of frontiers and superstars "deluxe edition" bonuses are purchasable separately as dlc

 

If not a full digital deluxe upgrade, then the individual components will be able to be able to be purchased, with perhaps a bundle labelled as digital deluxe.

 

At least on Switch, with Colors Ultimate, Superstars, Origins (non-plus) you could not buy a digital deluxe upgrade but you could buy all the components separately. I imagine it’d be the same for SXSG as Sega want that upsell money.

Frontiers was the only Sonic game where the content in the DD version was not available separately.

 

Not quite true - I don't know about the other games, but at least two things in Superstars' Digital Deluxe package aren't available separately: the digital artbook and the Mecha Sonic skin for Battle Mode. And a Digital Deluxe Upgrade is available for that game (at least on Switch), but the option didn't actually appear until the launch day itself. So I'd imagine if Sonic X Shadow Generations is following suit, we won't know until launch day either.

I totally understand Sega wanting to upsell, by why must they make it so horribly complicated?

They should just have a standard version of the game (that is sold physically and digitally) and then a season pass. If you buy the season pass, you get all the extra content. And they can make it if you pre-order the season pass and standard at the same time digitally, you get the pass at a generous discount. It would be so much easier than all this day 1, extra DLC, pre-order bonus, newsletter sign up, digital deluxe stuff which is horribly confusing. I think it also only causes unnecessary stress for fans who show up to buy the game at launch, but are never totally clear on what they are getting or what they can later buy to complete their purchase.

 

The only content to date that's been permanently locked behind a Digital Deluxe edition is the Frontiers Adventurer's outfit (ala those hideous brown leather gloves and boots). Everything else for all games has been made available for purchase one way or another. I'd be damn surprised if the only way to get access to the movie level and skin was to pre-order pre-order a digital game that releases 2 months before the movie and said level.
