An 'unglitched' Super Tails in Sonic 3

    I made that discovery 10 years ago but I'm not sure if it has been ever stated or mentionned anywhere, since I never saw anything similar on any Sonic site.

    What am I talking about? About Super Tails in Sonic 3 alone. You all know that when we transform him using debug, he gets glichted and all his tiles are messed up. Everybody here know that.
    But, there's a thing that you may not know or less: it's possible to have an "unglitched" version of Super Tails, in Sonic 3 alone.
    Well, it's the same as the "glitched" one, except that he looks normal.
    Judge by the pictures (and they're not hoaxes):

    1. Tails is invincible, but looks normal
    2. He produces "energy sparks" (dunno how to call that) when running, just like Super Sonic
    3. Another "invincibility" proof
    4. He's got the power to break some rocks, as Super Sonic has too
    5. Definitely Super Tails, all "Sonic-blue" colors are replaced by blinking yellow

    Another thing that also occurs with its glitched appearence, but also happens here: he doesn't lose rings.

    The way to get this unglitched version is really simple. You don't need neither Game Genie nor Action Replay to get it. Only debug mode. (get a savestate with Select+Debug activated somewhere if necessary)

    But you've got to find it by yourself to get it. This may be already known (in that case, I'd be really sorry), but l'm attempting... We'll see if I'm wrong or right.

    Last note: this is not a new character, just a glicth preventing another one (this is how I like to call that).

    Hmm...let's see here. Enter debug after touching a special stage ring as Sonic, and the graphics get glitched up. You do the same thing with Tails and his sprites unglitch? Sounds similar to Super Tails/Knuckles in Doomsday.

    It could have been that, but it's not (and if you do that, it glitches him even more).
    In fact, it's a button to press on the pad, right after Tails hits the 'S' monitor. Now, guess what button it is ;).

    About Doomsday, what kind of glitch is it? (what, I was not aware of that?... :shocked:)

    Are you talking about the A+B+C (or was it just B+C?) combination? Making the player show all the mappings in order from 0 to 255, this may also trigger some fixes for the multi-pattern management which may unglitch Tails? Don't know though

    Wrong awswer!

    I give you some clue:
    - Make an 'S' monitor appear into the game
    - Jump on it
    - After hitting the monitor, you must press the correct button on the pad to prevent the glitch
    - After you see the blue 'S' turn into yellow, press the same button again... look, you've prevented Tails from being glitched

    And I said one button. There are 3 buttons the Genesis/Megadrive standard pad. Now, try to find the correct one. (wow, this thing turns into a guessing game :P)

    And the 'B+C' thing doesn't "unglitch" him: it performs all the animation routines with the glitched appearence. Yes, it was 'B+C' (and I'd even say pressing 'C' while maintaining 'B', it works as well)

    Next answer? :D

    Last note: if you transform him into Super Tails without the 'prevent glitch' trick, it will be impossible to get back to its normal appearence even if you perform the trick on next attempts. But as long as he's not gitched, the trick can (and must!) be repeated each time you make Tails hit an 'S' telly (but there's no need since he doesn't lose rings).

    It is. Correct answer. Actually, you must press 'B' (which is logic) right after Tails hit the monitor. ;)
    This will set debug on again. When setting debug off by pressing 'B' again, Super Tails will have the "normal" appearence.

    Congratulations, hunterex2000. Now, you know everything about it. Normally, there should be no particular problem in performing this trick and it should work everytime if performing it correctly, and as long as Super Tails does not get the "glitched" appearence.

    Isn't B the button you have to press to become Super by standard? First you jump, and then press B to while having 50 rings.

    Once you've jumped you can push any button again to become Super. A, B or C. It doesn't matter which one you press, as long as you've already jumped once.

    So it *is* the same glitch as done with the special stage ring, just not done at the special stage ring. So I was half right =P

    Also, with debug on, B will not make you super, for obvious reasons. A should, however, since S3 alone doesn't have gravity reversing.

    Oh... as I realize it now, to some extent you're right. It is the same kind of glitch involved when you enter special stage (hitting B right after entering the big ring). Except that with special stage it gives you unexpected results regarding the object you get when you hit B. :D

    Now, about pressing B to become Super when you gather 50 rings. LocalH is right.
    First, it works with any button (without debug).
    Secondly, if debug is enabled, with Sonic 3 alone, it's restricted to A and C (and doesn't work with Tails anyway). And it has nothing to do with the famous 'Super Tails' glitch and the trick I mentionned above because these two manipulations need the 'S' telly.

    Rika Chou: Thank you. You know, I'm hunting good Sonic places to go at this moment, and I came here. But, I don't know if I'll be able to bring something really useful to the community (I'll get a new comp soon, so there are chances that I'll be more active). :P

    and while on the super sonic topic, has anyone ever got a red super sonic? I remember hacking nad getting one by accident. and yes I know it was knuckles super colors.

    Ummmm...could you kindly refrain from the words "that was gay" in the near future? Combined with your lack of capitalization skills, such offensive comments probably are not going to get you closer to being a full time member here.

    Sorry, it just really bugs me when people use that term. Nothing wrong with being gay, and it is just as easy to say "that was messed up" instead of "that was gay" to avoid being offensive. That's my two cents. We now return you to Sonic The Hedgehog conversation, already in progress!

    Hez is a scene oldbie, and I doubt you'll be able to change the way he is.

    Whether that affects Simon making him a full member is only known to Simon.

    :wtf: uhh I think I got a differen`t result is he suposed to flash and have super flickys following him and are they suposed to attack robotnik (knux in hidden place battle) and destroy badniks I made an 'S' monitor or 2 oh and his rings go down

    You are playing sonic 3 and knuckles the super tails described here is in sonic 3 alone.

    in hex location around D47A I think, you can change what character your using. so if you change sonic to knuckles along with tails, youll have knuckles and tails! and if you hit an S monitor.....super sonicish knuckles!

    oh and ScaryMonkeyShow....don't fuck with me....
