Finally been dumped now, for anyone who hasn't already seen. Not playable yet until it's added to MAME though. In the meantime, listen in amazement (and horror?) at the voice acting.
It would have been so cool if this was referenced during the The End fight in Frontiers. It’s canon to me. Seriously. Why shouldn’t it be?
Its amazing that this game has been found and dumped, there is hope other lost versions and games will be found someday too... maybe the waku waku sonic police car english rom, or that mytical spanish patrol car dub. Or even the cotton candy game! I was able to run the rom on mame (even if it is not officially supported yet, had to do some hacking), so I recorded some gameplay of the english version. Enjoy!
How many "lost" titles are still left to be uncovered now? 1990 Tokyo Toy Show Demo? A hypothetical English Waku Waku Patrol Car? (Do we even know one was made)? This weird SA2 arcade cabinent? I feel like we're reaching the point where anything left to uncover enters into "we didn't even know it existed" territory.
SegaSonic Wataame Scramble and probably several other arcade machines that didn't feature any graphical element altogether, but still have ROMs to be dumped. I know progress was made on some of them though, including UFO SegaSonic.
I'd quite like to get video of this thing... Amazingly, I have an 'audio' recording of it somewhere on my desktop. There's only ever been 1 of these found in the wild and some guy randomly posted it to twitter a few years back, along with audio of it in action, for some reason it was never filmed. Konami also made a Mario version of this too.
This is clearly the best English Sonic voice, but... is it the first? We've got SegaSonic Cosmo Fighter listed as a April 1993 release, which pre-dates the cartoons and Sonic CD.
I seem to recall that the AOSTH pilot was made in 92’. Jaleel White was the voice actor in it so if this was first really depends on production history for this title if it predates that pilot. In terms of retail releases I think this beats anything afaik.
I’ve played on this very cabinet at SEGA World Sydney back in the day. I have a fond memory of it as at that point I thought I knew of every Sonic game out there. Then I discovered this thing!
Only just came across this thread now and it’s so great to see that the English version has been dumped, let alone that one exists. I’m not sure if I was ready for how jarring those voices are, reminds me of old early 90s Sega CD and TurboGrafx CD dubs.
That's totally the vibe I'm thinking of! that or some of the early Falcom PCE CD/TurboGrafx CD English dubs.
