Officially SOnic CD takes place between 2 and 3K
Which makes me wonder why he just didn't fly to the Little Planet super and blow Robotnik sky high

Gameplay and storyline segregation strikes again

It may have been released between 2 and 3K, but that doesn't always mean that that's when the game actually takes place. Remember that Sonic 2 and Sonic CD were being developed at the same time by different branches at SEGA, and Sonic 2 was just released first. Besides, doesn't the Sonic 3 manual state that it begins almost immediately after Sonic 2 while they're still on the Tornado?

When I was a kid, I always thought Sonic CD happened before Sonic 2 rather than after Sonic & Knuckles, since it cannot be in between because of that manual saying 2 and 3&K are very close together (it wouldn't make sense for Eggman to go to the Little Planet when the Death Egg fell on Angel Island either).

    SCD being before S2 explains:
-Lack of Tails and the Tornado.
-In S2 Sonic's sprite is always smirking, while in S1 and SCD he looks annoyed at what's going on. A getting accostumated to thigs of some sort. Sonic's S1 and SCD sprite are more similar and the FMV animation makes him look younger, while Sonic 2 forward looks older (the good ending counts as well).
-Robotnik's plans getting more and more elaborate and dangerous, as an escalation of power. Sonic 1 shows him conquering an island, CD a small planet with time skipping properties, 2, 3&K a doomdsday device, SA a monster destroyer of the world.

I know none of this had a meaning behind it, but my mind made all of these things fitted together.

It actually makes sense to me as well. I also remember a hidden screen you can get where it shows Tails in Sonic CD with the tornado and it says something like "See You Next Game."
A long time ago this screen made me wonder if Sonic CD was supposed to be released first and the only reason Sonic 2 was released first was because they wanted to reach the holiday and they cut out levels to do it.

Nowadays I don't really think about it much and realize you can play the games in whatever order you want in order to develop the story the way you think it is supposed to go in your mind. Using your imagination makes playing video games fun, and the more detailed the games get, the less there is for you to imagine.

Sometimes I like to play by release date, sometimes I like to play in the order of the story, and sometimes I like to play all the games in a series for a certain platform before I play any on a different one. (I.e. playing Mario Land 2 before moving on to SNES even though Super Mario World came out first)

I don't have a source on it anymore, I must admit, and it may have been wrong as well
    If I'm incorrect I apologise

No, it states (at least in Collection) that it takes place days later. How could the Death Egg hit Angel Island, Angel Island fall into the ocean, Knuckles find Robotnik, Robotnik trick Knuckles, Robotnik build the Launch Base Zone, and Sonic and Tails arrive in like 5 minutes? Robotnik can build things quickly, but not that fast.

But either way, Sonic CD couldn't have happened between 2 and 3. Robotnik was doing something else during that time.
    Edit:

  8. I don't have a citation on this, but I swear the Sonic 3 page on TheGHZ once stated that the Death Egg fell out of orbit gradually, over a period of months.

  9. This makes sense. There is no real connection between Sonic 1 and 2, so this game could potentially fill the gap.

    So if this would work:

    S1>SCD>S2>S3>S&K

Also...why isn't this it's own topic? Isn't this topic about Amy?

Nope. Always was Sara. In fact, if you look at the picture posted, the katakana in front says "Seera" which sounds like Sara, which is her name.

Knowing basic japanese kana is a nice skill to have, even if you don't know a lot of the language. =D

Speaking about that, is Amy's name in Japanese Amy, or Emi?

    Amy Rose
    ??????? (Emi Rozu)

Sonic, Tails and Knuckles all have their names written to sound like english, but if Amy followed this, shouldn't it be ??? (Eimi)? Because otherwise, Emi is a japanese name. Does she have a different name there?

    being an asshole =P
To be fair it'd be a mix of "emi" and "eimi" because that I is very short. I've heard several times that sound to be almost cut out in the English sound track, so I assume that's why they went with "emi".

Back around the time of the Shogaku Yonensei Sonic manga, the character that eventually became Amy Rose was called Amy, and her name was spelled ????, eim?, which is the correct way of writing the name. When she became Amy Rose officially and her appearance became the classic Amy we all know, her name was changed slightly and was spelled ???????, em? r?zu, which later lead to the generally "incorrect" romanization of her name being written as Emmy instead of Amy.

Honestly it seems like they removed the extra 'I' character for aesthetics because technically her name would be Emmy given the Japanese spelling. Buncha cheaters, I guess.

I've always thought about it this way, especially the comparison between classic Amy and Minnie Mouse. Both in appearance and character personality. I am definitely more of a fan of the original Amy, and have no qualms about her appearance, either. A lot of you complain about the colors of her old outfit, when they are clearly just complementary colors. She was much more identifiable as a hedgehog as her old self, too.

Sure you could argue that the way her quills are now are how quills might look if they were hair, but these characters (Sonic and Amy,) are meant to look like hedgehogs, and it just so happens that the main characteristic of these animals are their outwardly-sticking quills. If she were a fan-character, this probably wouldn't be in question.

Also, I know that realistically her outfit on a 12 year old might not look so inappropriate if it were the right length, (which more than half the time isn't illustrated properly on Amy, nor is it done in the games.) The only time I thought her newer appearance worked was in Sonic Adventure. It was only in that game did they seem to get across the "fashionable" aspect of her new design. This could be because most of the art of her from that game made her look old enough to wear something like that. In the newer games, she just seems inappropriately dressed for her age, and still missing something like bows or another cutesy element to make it look right.

Honestly, if she had a bow or ribbon or something and a pair of puffy white bloomers like Minnie Mouse, I doubt she'd look as slutty as she does now. That would be adorable and I'd probably like both her old and new designs fairly equally.

Considering the name. Keep in mind that there's no 'ei' sound in the modern Japanese language, the diphthong 'ei' is pronounced the same way as 'ee'.

For this reason, they usually don't write 'ei' when transcribing foreign words/names in katakana. E.g. the English word 'game' is written as 'geemu' in katakana (???).

Is she even a hedgehog in that manga? I love that design with the crazy hair though, it's cute. There were never scanlations for the manga, now were there?
