Last time I went through the whole Alien Soldier, I remembered a scene I saw in some old magazines where a huge guy appeared on screen making a weird face, but I was disappointed when I finished the game and never saw it. I thought it had been removed from the final product but, luckily, it looks like I was wrong. This is what I had always seen: <!--id1--><object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/TgvFhmfueak#t=6m1s&"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/TgvFhmfueak#t=6m1s&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object><!--id2--> (06:01) And this is what happens... sometimes: <!--id1--><object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/bAlfVpUWjMU#t=2m35s&"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/bAlfVpUWjMU#t=2m35s&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object><!--id2--> (2:35) There's been some talk about it over here, but without any concluding results... Does anybody know what could be triggering this? I wonder if it's a deliberate easter egg or if there's some bug that can prevent it to be played.
In my experience, the cutscene triggers every time you make it up to that point without dying once. I always play on Super Hard, but I'm relatively sure the difficulty hasn't got anything to do with it. I've got a better recording of it here, by the by. EDIT: Oh, right, I should mention that I play with the PAL version. PAL is for Europe, right? I'm always getting my encoding systems mixed up.
I've never not seen that scene, honestly. This is the first I've heard of the game skipping it. I haven't played the Japanese version much, but on the European one, both the ROM I have and cartridge I own, and on either difficult, I always see it. This has got me curious, however. I'll give a couple things a shot later if I remember to.
First time I ever played this game, I saw the cutscene. After that, I have seen it sometimes, and others I didn't. At first I thought it was because of playing the game straight from the beginning or accessing to that particular stage through passwords, but that seems not to be the reason. It would be good to know what's the particular reason or thing to be done in order to trigger or not that scene.
I've never not seen the cutscene either. That may be because I die and start over so frequently, that I breeze through all the bosses leading up to Xi Tiger in a snap without dying at all.
Try seeing it for the first time when playing on an actual Genesis on a 30" TV, CRT or no. That'll make your heart skip a beat.
I second this motion. I never saw that cutscene when I used to play through this game on easy. Though that was about 10 years ago and my memory is hazy.
