likely they had to at the very least make the prototype playable witch is why it plays levels in a certain order opposed to giving you level select.
It seems that the recent "trade show demo" in the re-release actually was included with the source code for the game that was found a couple years back. So not directly sourced from my ROM, but it seems like it may actually be the same build for the most part save for small things.
Bit late, but I've just compared them and I'd say that it indeed seems to be your ROM, hex-patched to (among other things I haven't checked) skip the debug and SEGA logo screens and, oddly, remove the button config option: But, besides all those patches here and there, everything else is in the exact same places, so it doesn't look like a different build. EDIT: Ah, I see that all the ROMs in the collection had the button configuration edited out just like that, not only this one.
