Oh, the little maniac of PNG is practicing at vector logo re-creations, now?

In fact, I wanted to do this because I was feeling guilty of not offering a Sonic Rush logo on Sonic Art Archive. Also, I noticed that the only existing logos of that game that are heavily used come from bad quality JPEGs.

UPDATE (2005-11-27): I fixed some gradient mistakes on blue and purple arrows. I also updated the files. Don't forget to check out the links below again.

    Anyway, here is my attempt:
    http://dioxaz.free.fr/download/art/sonicrush_logo.png (truecolor+alpha PNG, 84kB)

In a bigger resolution and in better quality than what Sega FTP offers you!
And if you want the AI file, no problem: http://dioxaz.free.fr/download/art/sonicrush_logo.rar

It wasn't so hard for me to re-create it. The only tricky thing was about the font used for writing 'RUSH' as it was definitely neither Vipnagorgialla, nor Digital Sans EF nor even ITC Bolt (which are not free anyway).
Instead, I used a free font called Kimberley made by Ray Larabie (you can download it, it's free!). It was the closest one in my opinion, even if it's still looking too "squary" comparing to the original 'RUSH' font. I also had to touch up the 'R' a bit to make it look more like the original one.

Anyway, I'm pretty proud of my attempt. I'd like to see what you think of it.
I may have made some mistakes even if I did my best to make it accurate. Just point them out if you ever find some.

Pretty sweet. I don't notice anything wrong right off the bat, butI'll be sure to look it over.

EDIT: Could you please post a link to the original logo? The one on Sega's FTP gives me an error, and I can't seem to find it on your excellent site.

Dioxaz, is RUSH font the same as the Sonic Heroes title card font?

It's likely possible. Me or another person needs to try matching the text from title cards and the same text written in Kimberley (the closest font to that one). I don't know where are located the titlecards in TXD files, but I'm going to try (I can make screenshots, too).

About the logo: whoa! I wasn't expecting that much. Glad to see, guys, that you liked it.
I finally found some little mistakes on blue and purple arrows (especially gradients). I fixed them and updated the files (check out the links of the first post).

Heran_Bago: Thank you for the Jap one! I'll try to do the same for this one. As for what I did with this version, I'll take the 'SONIC' text straight from a SonicX logo (oops, something I forgot to mention). But the 'RUSH' text, as it is now in Japanese, will be even harder to reproduce.

Guess_Who: I based my re-creation around a logo present on a wallpaper found on a Sonic Rush or Sonic Channel website. I used this one as a reference.
The one on Sega FTP gives you an error because it's a CMYK JPEG file. Browsers are made to view RGB ones only. You must download the file by doing 'Save as' instead.

OK, sorry for the double post (you can't delete posts in IPB) but I had to do this to made that precision:

The font used for Sonic Heroes titlecards (and most of the text in option menus) IS that Kimberley look-a-like:

    Seaside Hill:
    [IMG][IMG]
The original version, coming from the 'stg01title_disp.one' file.

    [IMG][IMG]
The same text, written in Kimberley.

    Ocean Palace:
    [IMG][IMG]
The original version, coming from the 'stg02title_disp.one' file.

    [IMG][IMG]
The same text, written in Kimberley.

Note that I used the original textures as a base and didn't remove unused spaces.

Tool used to extract textures: Lightening's "One Unpacker", Nemesis' "PRSDec Auto" and a Vice City TXD viewer/extractor named "TXD Workshop".

You can see that Ray Larabie's font is really close the original one, except some noticeable exceptions. And he was probably inspired by this font when he created his Kimberlay. On the other hand, I doubt that the original version is distributed somewhere (even as a commercial font).

Anyway, there are some part where Vipnagorgiolla is used in the game. It's in the power-up icons mainly (numbers).

Yes, I can definately see a few differences between the Heroes font and that Kimberly (a, c, e, n, I, d, etc etc etc), but they are pretty similar.

Your white outline around the whole thing is too thick, your gradient fill on the blue design thing is a little darker, I can't tell why you put that extra black outline around the blue outline and the RUSH text (if you used that wallpaper as a base, like I am in the comparison, it looks like a hardly noticable JPEG artifact), and I would swear your RUSH text is not italicized properly. It kinda looks like the RUSH text has been squished a little bit. I'll edit this with stuff as I find it. It's mostly an excellent job, though. ;)

EDIT: It seems the pink/purple bar is a little dark as well. The white outline around the word "RUSH" is too thick, which is what made it look squished. It does look like the italicization is a bit off, and the "shadow" on the word RUSH looks like it goes up a bit far, and is also a little bit thick.

    Also,
I snagged the copy of the logo off the Sega FTP (that image is in awful quality @[email protected]), and after looking at several pictures of the logo it doesn't really appear to be a black outline, but maybe like the text was just darkened around the edges or something. :\

I wish you good luck in that case. But hurry or else I'll upload my version to SAA (don't worry, the next update will not be before, at least, the next week).

Firstly, I might effectively not dosed my gradients well (or used the wrong type sometimes). My only way to check accuracy was comparing colors on visible corners (it marely helped me to dose my gradient settings). And yes, the external white border is a bit too thick.

Edit: I had some copy-paste probs into the post, sorry (my keyboard is getting nuts).

Hehe, now that you tell me, you're right. I carefully watched the SonicX and Sonic Advance 2 logos I had, and effectively no thick black outline around the blue one. On the other hand, that black outline IS present around the red 'RUSH' text (or else it would look smoother than that, even on a JPEG).

It was hard to italize properly with a low-res bitmap as a base. In that case, both 'SONIC' and 'RUSH' texts are not italized correctly. And, I watched the original Sonic Rush logo again closely and both texts are italized the same way. They aren't on my version. (BTW, italic angle was different from the one used in SonicX logo)

To finish, I may squished the 'RUSH' text, I don't remember. I wanted to make it match to the original one, so I did all kinds of possible operations (stretching, etc.).

Well, congratulations for fiding all those mistakes, sincerly. ;)

PS: mistakes are even more obvious when superposing a 50-percent-scaled-down (edit: not 25, sorry) version of my PNG to the original logo present on the Blaze wall. :P

Dioxaz, you were right about Kimberley. It's too close to be true really.
I know that Sonic Team stopped to use Vipnagorgiolla after Sonic Adventure 2 Battle. After that they have had a much better font, which I think is the one in Sonic Heroes. Now, there is a font used in Sonic Advance 2 for menus that is a little bit different.

I will go with Kimberley. Let me see what illegal stuff I can do about it to make it more Sonic Heroes.

OK, I've just checked that logo again (which shows lots of scaling-up artifacts, too, this explains why I didn't use it as a reference at all) and there is an outline, but it's not black like I tought it was. It might be just dark red after all.

And for the shadow under 'RUSH' being off, that definitely shows your sense of observation. I effectively shadowed the 'SONIC' and 'RUSH' parts separately, which looks to me as an unforgivable mistake now ^^; (lol, this is my first logo re-creation ever).

(little note: I'm glad that my sense of observation is still with me, or else I wouldn't have noticed your edit :P)

For the moment, one can't do otherwise. Kimberley will our "Heroes font". Note that even if the two fonts look really close, a few letters such as small 'g' and small 't' differ completely.

About Sonic Team, they may asked a certain font designer or designing company to create a custom font for some of their games, too (lots of big companies such as the car manufacturer Renault and airports often have recourse to that technique).
They did that with that so-known Sonic font, which seems to be a variation of Syntax, but looking quite different.
Even if I deeply hope they didn't do that for Sonic Heroes.
