3D Model ripping thread

Discussion in 'Technical Discussion' started by Ice God, Feb 24, 2009.

1. They were posted on cult a while ago, I grabbed them while they were up but I lost them, they were all textured, in T pose, but some of them (like Amy) looked a little pale for some reason. If anyone has them I'd like to have them for some posing work : >

2. Well, I have them all t-posed with textures, I just wanted them with bones. I think they were pale because they need vertex colours on them...

Does anyone have the outside of Princess Peach's castle from Super Mario 64 ripped up? I'd love to use it for an engine test ground.

I was wondering if someone has a rip of the City Escape level from Sonic Adventure 2, it's quite important with this project I'm working on.
I can't really dump the Gamecube version of the level as my computer is having complications with Dolphin so I can't screen-dump

I've managed to find a way to get even the Alloys from Brawl ripped (perfectly, except for the stomach section, and I've learned how that's done in the game.

Now, I've got some questions:

In Blender, I've noticed a way to make an object render as just wires (hey, just like that stomach bit that was giving me trouble), but I can't seem to make those wires thicker than 1 pixel. I need a way to make them render wider, and not add a standard polygonal version. Would anyone know how to do this?

Second, I'm getting a very... strange bone orientation when I do a model dump. Outside of manually trying to connect everything, what can I do?

Third, one thing I've been trying to do when I've been working on models for myself, is cleaning them up. For example, I'll go in and do a 'remove doubles' on an Alloy, which smooths it out, and then apply the edgesplit only where it's necessary, as opposed to having, say, the glowing stripes be separate (and causing a higher vertex count) from the main body. Is this desirable, or is it better to allow those 'broken' edges to stay?

Pros for cleaning up:

+ Model looks nicer in software
+ Fewer vertices overall
+ More likely usable in other applications
+ Removes potentially unnecessary bones

Pros for leaving as-is:

+ Is the original data as it was modeled by the developers
+ Is more likely to be able to be put back into the original game (say, for Brawl hacks)

And finally, what format would be best for exporting to? I'd ideally want to keep the armature, so that the weighting can be applied to whatever bone structure might be needed elsewhere, but I know that sometimes the more exotic formats can suck for that.

I made a tool to extract Jet Set Radio Future models and textures, still working on it.

Here's a pack of the playable characters + Professor K in .obj + .bmp textures (with alpha for transparency)

I will keep posting models here though as far as Sega doesn't mind.

I ripped a few level packs and a few objects.
Images Format: PNG/TGA.
Model Formats: PSK/PSA(animation)
PSK/PSA importers:

3dS Max. These work with 2011, I've tested them myself.
http://www.gildor.org/projects/unactorx http://www.unreal.shaungoeppinger.com/devi...nganimsmax.html

Blender. I haven't tested, and I don't plan too. Sorry. if the demand is high enough, I may export them to obj.

Since most of Sonic Colors was '2D', or 2D.5, a lot of the models looks incomplete, but they are infact, complete. Afterall, why model something that not going to be seen?

Sorry to bump this, but I'm from Sonic Reikai, and I know who did rip that Fang model. I can help ypu contact him, if you're still interested in this.

While I've been away from the Sonic community for a while, and I know I'm replying to a 7month old post, I'd like to see if I can get ahold of the ripper and maybe work with them. I have many undocumented objects from Sonic the Fighters I am unable to identify because the models are too big for the viewing area within the game. If I could extract the models and determine what texture should be used, these unknown objects could be recreated. A bit outdated object list of my findings can be seen here.

BUMP.

So, I know this is an old thread and such, but I can't find a rule about Bumping and I think what I have here may be important.

More or less, I have the majority of the Sonic the Fighters 3D models. Or something very similar to them. I've pretty much been searching for them for a long time, but no google search really ever led me to 'em. Then one day I found this obscure website that had a "BlitzSonic 3D Models pack" or something akin to that. One of those personal blogs people run for maybe a month then forget about. The pack itself didn't actually contain any models actually ready to be put in BlitzSonic, but it DID contain dozens and dozens of Models ripped from Sonic games. It contained a lot of things that could be ripped from easily (like SA1, Riders, SatBK, Heroes, Unleashed), but it also contained some rarer things like a few good SA2 rips, or a functional-looking Sonic from Sonic Rush.

Lastly, there was a Fighters Models section. I found what I was looking for without actually looking for it. Figures.

It has all the original fighters: Sonic, Super Sonic Tails, Knuckles, Bean, Bark, Amy, Espio and Fang.

[IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

[IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Then there's some of the rarer ones: Robotnik, his Mech (from the Final Fight), Metal Sonic, the Tornado, the Robots with the Drill Arms, and Rocket Metal. (No Honey, however.)

[IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Then, there seem to be a few fan-made/edited ones: Ray, Mighty, Shadow, Charmy, and Vector in his 32X look.

[IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

There aren't any of the stages, unfortunately. But if these aren't the original models, they're at least freaky close.

Here's a link to all of them: http://www.mediafire.com/?c5qx2z7vkmpf4x1

But yeah.

Happy Sonic the Fighters Rerelease, I guess.

Holy shit it was just yesterday I was thinking I could really use the models from Fighters, and of all things to be posted on Retro today.
Can't thank you enough for these.

I'm really intrigued at those models...

• The Model2B emulator uses it's own engine to render the models, and directx to render textures
• This is why model rippers only get flat models
• Character meshes have colors assigned to them, which then overlay onto textures

They seemingly look legit though. Would love to get in contact with them to rip every object in the game.

I don't know who ripped them, though. Didn't Ashthedragon say that she knew who ripped them, or at least Fang, a year or so back?

This is just perfect! I'm already working on Knack, but with these we can have even more classic characters in Gmod.

Yeah, I know who ripped Fang, but I'm not sure he ripped any other. I remember he did a fanmade Ray a while back too, but I'm not sure it is that one...I'll ask him.
