    Another good job, Orengefox.

I couldn't get anyone to donate for this when it was up for grabs years ago, glad to see you could make it work.

This is great news - glad the S2 autodemo is secured! = D Can't wait to see if any secrets lie within once the ROM is dumped.

    Actually... I did too.

It's kinda more fun if you think of it as a golf game featuring Sonic more than anything else. It's still pretty crappy, mind, but almost makes sense from that mindset.

Some artwork, a ZZT game, and a hack.
Thanks drx. I'm just glad we were given another chance to grab these, that's all that matters to me :)

Another major update folks. We've just received a late but huge donation to get the Tails Adventure Review Prototype thanks to generosity of our Tech member Glitch. Because he put that much money down to get the Tails Adventure Review Prototype, he asked if he could own the prototype after I've dumped it. I wasn't going to bother with the Tails Adventure Review Prototype nor was anyone else so I think that's fair enough. Plus, it's another prototype we won't have to worry about now.

So looks like we've acquired all three Game Gear prototypes.

All three secured. Amazing job, guys! Many thanks to the donators who made this possible - 3 pieces of Sonic's history that won't be doomed to bitrot.

Really looking forward to seeing the ROMs of these.

Excellent! I'm most excited about Sonic 2, but I'm also looking forward to what we find in Labyrinth and Tails Adventure.

This is lovely. I like the way even the unused music in 8-bit Sonic 2 is good.

Though it is disappointing in one sense - now that we have it in front of us, we can see that... we sort-of had it all along, but didn't know it. Magazines mapped out Green Hills for us

and we had photos of the other bits

Obviously it's not the complete picture and the ROM might still hold some gems, but you get the idea.

p.s. here's hoping it's also this prototype in disguise...

    Working on my art!
This and the Sonic Adventure auto demo make me have to ask... what the hell is the point of an auto demo. Why not just record it and send it on a VHS or something (well VHS at the time but obviously now it'd be something different)?

Hey, whatever happened to that 8-bit S1 proto you mentioned a long time ago? I don't suppose that's still happening?

This is a really good time for Sonic Research. First Windy Valley and now this.

    Great work Sonic Retro,

Good point, that one sounded quite interesting from the snippets we heard - wasn't it supposed to be more similar to the Mega Drive version in some aspects? That would fit very well with the fact that Marble Zone BGM that was discovered in the final game a little while ago.

Does anyone notice how differently it looks like this games direction was going? It almost looks like you fell from the sky zone (whatever the second levels name was, its been way too long) into underground zone. If so, this looks like the game was SUPER rushed.

I'm late to the party but I can't wait to start hacking the Sonic 2 Auto Demo, and I'm glad the goal was reached to obtain the other protos as well. :) And that transition from Sky High Zone to Underground Zone was awesome!

To see the game running under the engine and on the hardware, but only showing what the developer wants you to see rather than anything left unfinished and not ready. Higher quality than VHS this way, too. Think of it as title screen demos without a "press start to begin game" function. :P

^ Plus it means they could also exhibit it without having to rewind the tape!
