Truly a work of modern art.

    Shit is fucking slow, though.

Amazing job! Love the lens flare and grafics! The lens flare doesn't interfere with teh game at all, and the super slow speed enhances the game play! Would play again, A+++++++++!

    This is amazing.

I think the special extra touches such as the one-pixel small bright area in the lens flare and the HD Realism filter (which, by the way, looks extremely classy and next-gen!) are very unique. The slowness is also a nice touch; this, my friends, is what HD is all about.

I can only hope that one day, whether it be today or a year from today, the real S2HD will eclipse this project in its glory. Vincent and all the other artwork coordinators should take a good, long look at the design principles and artistic aspects of this project, and apply (or unapply) it to their own HD version of Sonic 2.

I asked him to implement it, but he wouldn't. :(

Bloom was also another scrapped feature.

    Maybe he'll release a S2BetaHD edition soon?

I tried to implement it, but OriginalPixelFag/GS prevented me from doing so. :(

Gens/GS r7 S2HD Edition supports Sonic 2 rev00 and rev01, as well as Knuckles in Sonic 2. Make sure you're using a clean ROM. Apparently, there's a bunch of sites that don't have clean ROMs (e.g. SonicStrike - they NOP'd out the checksum code).

    CRC32s of supported ROMs:
    • Sonic 2, rev00: 0x24AB4C3A
    • Sonic 2, rev01: 0x7B905383
    • Knuckles in Sonic 2 (S2 rev00): 0x0D923D3E
    • Knuckles in Sonic 2 (S2 rev01): 0x2AC1E7C6

The coolest part about this is how Gerbil tried to ban me from his server, feigned ignorance, and figured I wouldn't be smart enough to figure out how to work around it.

    Nice job with this, though!

Sonic 2 doesn't have a checksum routine, only Sonic 1 does...

It isn't off-topic. You're trying to share something with us here, and I was having difficulty accessing it. Wouldn't have been any different had I encountered a bug that prevented this from running on my machine. Come on, now, you're an admin, we can discuss this in a civil manner. I'm not even mad!

I'll admit, though, I should've thought twice before applauding you for your fine work here. I'm sorry.

Strangely enough, Sonic 2 does! I had an issue yesterday where Sonic 2 would red-screen after being hot-patched before the ROM started. Turns out it was a byteswapping problem, which caused the newly-calculated checksum to be incorrect. Though I do remember that several years ago, S2 didn't have this issue... (Maybe I was just using a bad ROM?)

Set all the HD modes on and set frame skip to 5.

Only thing that bugs me in those screenshots is the lens flare in Metropolis. The sepia effect was cool, though.
