No, they don't expect it to happen in the first place.

So what, make the monitors never fall? Then wouldn't people start complaining over that instead? :V

Yes, the original games have flaws, whereby you can push through the level, but not as simply as the above situation. In the original, the box would actually clip through you or push you out the way. It's just an odd overlook and not nice looking at all.

Also, game design in the last 20 years has come a long way for other franchises, but not Sonic.
It sure has. Making sure the player doesn't get stuck in a situation where they have to reset or exit out of the game is a pretty key thing.

(Funny enough, Sonic Boom fails that, since you can't die after falling out of the hub world.)

    Spoiler

What in the everloving fuck do you expect the game to do here? What do you want it to do?

Are you expecting the game to kill you outright (the "everything becomes a death trap" clause)?
Are you expecting the game to clip you into the wall and just make you fall through it until you die anyway?
Are you expecting the game to let you zip straight to the end and let you skip through the entire level?
Is keeping the player in a recoverable (if not odd-looking) situation suddenly a bad thing?

Why does this get so much mockery, but the unleashed engine's flaws get free passes?

Why is one odd thing an instant "I hate this game" for one game and not others?

Can you guys be consistent about anything?

"Sonic 4 doesn't count [because I don't want it to]"

    Okay.

At least Dimps can still make better shit than ... this. Maybe if (and when) it divebombs in price I'll look into playing it for myself, but there's no way I'm spending $50 on the game in its current state.
