Sonic Megamix
08 July 2015 - 05:00 PM
Hey, remember that thing called "Sonic Megamix"? I kinda do :|
This is sort of a renege of my "no talk" policy, maybe. I don't know
Anyway, I've been promoting my patreon lately, and as I disclosed Megamix as one of my for-free fan side-projects in the description, it's brought a little attention back to the game in general. People have expressed interest, asked for release dates, etc. In response, I decided to attempt a presentation in preparation for handling patron updates for anything I do. This includes a (silent) video and a long, descriptive blog post that explains it
(Be sure to read the blog post!)
Some key points-
- The changes from the earlier versions have bred what are now effectively two games: "Sonic 1 Megamix" (everything v4.0b and below) and "Sonic Megamix" (the "new levels" version with a ton more new content, officially shown only in video). The differences were vast enough to justify separation, and preserve "Sonic 1 Megamix" as a sort of "bonus" thing
- I show off some tech aspects of my test process, and at the same time, display a little more of the new Sunny Shores than could be seen in the previously-released video ("Never Cancelled")
- I display and explain what currently exists of a total engine rebuild, intended to replace the current version for better performance that will hopefully lead to some neat stuff
- I announce that, in response to my current patrons being Sonic fans and the requests regarding Sonic Megamix, that I will start by bugfixing and releasing a standalone version of "Sonic 1 Megamix" (not Sonic Megamix), which will essentially be an updated/upgraded version of what was called "v4.0b". "Sonic Megamix" content is still very in-progress and needs to wait for later release
That's just the gist, though, so, please head on over to the blog post for full details. Share it if you like, as well as this tweet for twitter users
This doesn't mean constant, super-detailed updates or anything, but I might consider discussing it more in the future. "Sonic Megamix" relies on more people than just me, and is still a good way from completion -
Project HC
18 December 2014 - 04:57 AM
I'm attempting to assemble and train a team of developers dedicated to learning to use Headcannon Game Engine and using it to create a game project. Please read this blog post very carefully for more details
Feel free to ask any questions you may have; I'll be happy to discuss aspects of HCGE or this project with anyone who is interested before they officially apply, as it will be important for you to understand what you're signing up for
If you'd like to help but don't feel like actively participating, please help to spread the word by sharing the blog post and/or this tweet
Thank you very much for your interest! -
Publicizing old Sonic 1, 2, 3, and CD for DS POCs
12 March 2013 - 08:54 AM
Along with renaming and rearranging my site recently, I decided to release the Sonic 1 for DS POC from my 2009 portfolio video for anyone who happened to be interested in playing around with it. It's basically a port from my original Sonic 1 GBA POC featuring the complete Green Hill Zone, Special Stage, and playable Tails and Knuckles, but that's not all. It actually includes small parts of Sonic 2, particularly the Special Stage, and parts of Sonic 3, such as the shields, the AIZ bosses and cutscenes, and the Special Stage/Blue Spheres, the latter including a few enhancements and an editor. Also, there's a separate POC of Sonic CD for DS, featuring the complete Palmtree Panic, and the Special Stage

They're not much and they aren't going anywhere now, but if you do want to check them out, more background, information, and downloads are available here:

E02 Multiplatform 2D Game Engine and Sonic the Hedgehog Example Game
14 November 2012 - 06:58 PM
[New to E02? Check the lower portion of this post for info]
This is a major update, bringing about new and better editing interfaces, new and enhanced functionality and ease-of-use script features, and other feature updates such as stereo and Ogg Vorbis music support! There is more, but the specifics are too numerous to list here. Please see the the What's New document
Also, those who have been keeping up may have noticed that I've been promising for a while to update the old Sonic example scripts with much better formatting and commenting to make it easier to read and manage. It was a long and boring process, but it's finally complete! On top of that, the functionality has been greatly expanded, including the addition of Tails and Knuckles as playable characters, and as a playable game, it has been expanded to include the same Green Hill zone from the 2008 Project Mettrix demo, as well as an all-new level using Green Hill and Labyrinth Zone objects, graphics based on PlaySega's online Flash Sonic the Hedgehog editor, and two new bosses - "Gemstone Garden Zone". There are even Bonus and Special Stages. Once again, there are too many updates to go into complete detail, so please view the ReadMe document
There is also a gameplay video spanning Gemstone Garden from start to finish, though it doesn't cover all possible routes, and only shows the location of two of the nine Special Stage rings (It is possible to get all 7 Chaos Emeralds. There are 7 "difficulty levels", plus a "hidden" eighth difficulty. The layouts are generated randomly each time)

Sonic Megamix
27 January 2012 - 04:05 AM

Since I'm expecting some awkward, annoying, or outright bad things to happen based on the events of today, I'm going to attempt to put it to rest right now.
As some of you may know (and I know that there are now significantly more of you that do than used to), I was co-founder and one of the project leads for Sonic Megamix. This has not changed, although as of about a week ago, I have been left in sole charge of the project due to Tweaker's abrupt leaving. We were told that we may not see him again, but we weren't told why, although we now have a better idea
I am posting today to say that, despite speculation that I have seen trying to kick up to the contrary, Megamix has not been and will not be cancelled
Progress has been made slowly since the last public "release", and even still over the last week. No member has presently expressed any desire to abandon the project, all meaning that we still have an in-tact team that is willing to push forward
Sonic Megamix is very much a team project- all of Team Megamix have made significant contributions to its development. We are all proud of what we have done with it, and we, more than anyone, deserve to see it completed and enjoyed by its fans
As for concern I had seen arise before, my leadership is absolutely nothing new, nor was it the first time it came up. I have had as strong of an influence on this project since the beginning of "Team Megamix" as I do today, and my intent has always been that the finished product be both enjoyable and as near to professional quality as possible. The rest of the team will work with me, and I with them, to make sure that happens
I should note that this is a statement, not an opening to debate. Given the volatile nature of the situation, I feel it in the best interest of the project and our team members to have made it as soon as possible. The project, in general, is obviously open for public discussion by nature, but please consider this specific matter closed
Further updates will come at our discretion. Excitement is understandable and appreciated, but please bear with us while we continue our work. Sonic Megamix will be released once it's complete, and that will take however long it takes, dependent on the work left and our other responsibilities. We can't say when that is, but we can say that we'll make it worth the wait
