Yeah, I like how that plays a bit better.

    * I found something that looked like grey goggles (not shoes) in Labyrinth Zone Act 1. It appeared to have no effect on me, good or bad.

    * I had just run out of time, about to expend my second continue, when this happened:

To be clear, the sequence of events was like this:
    1. I ran out of time
    2. I consequently died
    3. Zone restarted, sat there for about half a second and then went WHARRGARBL.

Can provide Kega-fusion savestate if you want.

And why hide the freeze boxes in places speedrunners never go?

I'm pretty sure that was the point... you can either blaze through the fastest path as quickly as possible, or take a slightly slower path to hit the freeze monitor, so that your overall time is lower.

Consider tweaking the way continues get given in bonus levels -- I got all emeralds and finished the game having used 3 continues and with a clock of 5:37, AND WITH 15 CONTINUES LEFT. If you subtract your initial 4 continues, that's still rather a lot of continues smile.png

I'll replay it now you updated, because the removal of the speed cap should make things quite interesting.

Sonic CD inspired idea: instead of subtracting a constant number of seconds, run the timer backwards until Sonic's speed drops below a certain threshold. I like this because it rewards good speedrunning (rather than punishing bad speedrunning)
