  1. Sonic Riders character revealed

    29 January 2006 - 01:37 PM

    Nintendo Power said:

Other Sega characters make guest appearances, too; we can't say who, but let's just say that some dreams will come true

So basically, since I hope no one is crazy enough to make Masato Nakamura a playable character in a video game, NiGHTS is the most likely, if not the only, suspect.

    Discuss.
  2. "The Sonic Olympics"

    15 October 2005 - 01:21 PM

I just saw that a Sonic fansite called Sonic Cage Dome was organizing a first-annual Sonic Olympics competition. The competition is going to consist of several events, including live multiplayer and both live and recorded time attack. The website organizing the event can be found here. There is a brief description there and a short video describing the event, as well as showing what some of the competitions will look like. The competition, though, is only open to five communities, most likely on a first-come-first-served basis. So, are enough people here interested enough to look at this seriously, or would it just not be worth the time?
  3. If you like All of Me...

    09 October 2005 - 02:12 PM

I've just recorded All of Me (the theme song from Shadow the Hedgehog) from Sega's official ShtH website. It's a decent-quality MP3, 1:45 long and weighing in at 2.41 MB. I would offer it for download, but I don't have a website or account anywhere to host it from. So, with that said, is anyone here with a website willing to put my recording up for download? If so, PM me a good e-mail address and I can send you the song, for anyone to hear.
  4. SGC Demos

    27 August 2005 - 01:49 PM

So far, I've unlocked all of the demos that require you to play every day. They are:
    Sonic 1
    Sonic 1 Good Ending
    Sonic 2
    Sonic 2 Good Ending
    Sonic 3
    Sonic 3 Good Ending
    Sonic & Knuckles
    Sonic 3D Blast/Flickies' Island
    Sonic Spinball
    Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
    Sonic 1 GG
    Sonic Labyrinth
    Sonic Drift
    Sonic Chaos
    Sonic Blast
Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine GG

There are four more game demos, though. The first three require the player to play for 24 hours total and "play the game" 30, 50, and 70 times respectively. The last one requires the lineup to be complete.
I have two questions: First, does anyone know whether "play the game" means turn on the GCN with SGC in it that many times? Second, does anyone know what these games could be?
Also, if anyone else has any questions about these games that they would like to ask of me, ask away.
  5. More info on Gems Collection

First, some relevant posts I've made in other topics

It seems to me like the three main games (SCD, StF, and Sonic R) are actually ported. I might be wrong about this, but you the instructions tell you that you exit the games from the actual games (no Z menu; I.e., exit Sonic R from an option on the Options screen, exit SCD from a menu item, etc.), and in Sonic the Fighters, some buttons on the controller activate button combos. Examples:

    SGC instructions said:

    A button-Punch ({P}) | B Button-Barrier ({B}) | X Button-Kick ({K}) | Y Button-{B}+{K} | Z Button-{P}+{K}+{B} | [...]

Plus, the manual explains that some features must be unlocked by meeting "certain requirements", which I think might mean in-game objectives.
The GG games are still emulated, but the emu is more advanced; you can make and load savestates, for example. In Sonic Drift 2, the 2-player mode exists like in Sonic Drift in SADX.

The C stick is used to toggle between full screen and small screen modes when playing GG games (just like L+R in SADX). I have played all the way through Tidal Tempest and encountered no such bugs yet; however, the special stage is extremely fast compared to the Sega CD version. Nothing in the Museum (art, music, movies, etc.) is unlocked from the start; everything that is to be unlocked is unlocked by playing the games or the collection as a whole for certain amounts of time. According to Nintendo Power, Vectorman can be unlocked after five hours of play and Vectorman 2 after seven or after playing Vectorman for the first time; however, Vectorman can also be unlocked with a save on your memory card (one of the GCN Sonic games, but I don't know which one because I have them all), and I don't know what NP's definition of "playing Vectorman for the first time" is. I played the game for a couple of minutes and exited, and nothing happened. The system files (settings, SCD saves) take up 2 blocks; StF and Sonic R saves take up four blocks each. You can save up to 8 savestates for Game Gear games and the Vectorman games, and each one takes 27 blocks. In addition to art, vids, and music, hints for the games (possibly containing cheats) can be unlocked; I haven't unlocked any yet. Art is divided into four categories: Sonic CD, Sonic the Fighters, Sonic R, and general (usually pertaining to the Game Gear games). I haven't unlocked any songs yet, but a screenshot in the instruction book shows "Can You Feel The Sunshine ACID Mix".

The game is $30. If you see it for any more than that, turn away. Sonic CD, Sonic the Fighters, and Sonic R are the big three, and it seems to me that they're actually ported and not emulated, but I don't know for sure. The game also includes 6 GG games: Sonic 2, Sonic Triple Trouble, Sonic Drift 2, Sonic Spinball, Tails' Skypatrol, and Tails' Adventures. You can unlock Vectorman and Vectorman 2. The GG and Vectorman games seem to be emulated, with the option to create savestates as well as "quick saves", which are savestates that persist until the current game is exited. There are no less than 140 pics, plus music and vids that I haven't unlocked yet. For further details, see my above posts.

It's now double-confirmed that the Genesis game demos do exist. By playing the game "every day", as it says on the Gallery screen as a hint, I've unlocked the demos for Sonic 1—both Genesis and Game Gear versions. I've had the game since Wednesday (that's four days). The bottom row of demos in that part of the gallery are all unlocked by playing the game at least 24 hours, and by powering it on X0 number of times. The highest is 70. The very last box's hint is to "complete the lineup"; however, this can't mean just the regular games (big three+game gear+Vectorman 1+2), because then I'd have it unlocked. It probably means to unlock all demos as well.

EDIT: On the songs, I've unlocked "Can You Feel the Sunshine ACID Mix", "Living in the City LTN Mix", "Are You Brave?", which is a remix of the advertise from Sonic the Fighters ("K.I.Y.O." is the song's original name IIRC), "Sonic Boom D 'n' B Mix", and another song from Fighters that I don't remember right this second, plus songs called "Sonic 6290 Mix" and "Sonic After-6290 Mix" that are remixes of some of the SCD Past levels' music.

    EDIT2: Added updated music info
