In Topic: Sonic ATS - Released!

Wow! I don't normally try fan-games because they're often not great but this has had a lot of hype and the music that has been released over time has been phenomenal so I downloaded the game and tried it out.
My main gripes with the game come from Sonic Worlds, I know its too late to change for Chrono Adventure but in the future it may be worth searching for and using a different engine because the controls in this engine are simply either too unresponsive or too slippery. Also getting into some gaps by jumping was challenging as the engine kept deciding I couldn't get in :/. Then there's the sometimes bounce, sometimes fall, when you hit an enemy that makes trying to get bounce combos frustrating.
Other than that though, the sheer number of badniks right in your face made me more cautious but at least it made it more challenging to go fast. The level design was great, so much so that I was able to predict exactly when the levels were about to end simply because of the way it was designed so similarly to the classics, in my opinion. The gimmicks were featured well in each level, although the kirby powerup broke the flow a lot. I had a really fun time playing the game, and the musicians did such an outstanding job that I'd even be willing to pay for the OST. I can't wait to download it and put it straight onto my iPod.
tl;dr: Sonic Worlds is silly, fun game, outstanding music! -

It was confirmed in the interview that boost is gone. It could just be if you are going at high speed they are magnetised. In fact there were several things in that GameXplain that was debunked or explained in the inteview.
Also I agree that the colours probably won't match the character colours - other than for the red guy who will probably be the volcano area just because classic tropes. -

The way I see it, this can go one of 3 routes:
1) Focus on being a 3D Sonic engine
2) Focus on being a multi-purpose 3D engine
3) Throw in the towel
Now my preference would be option 1 however SonicGDK already does an awesome job at that. Option 2 was the idea for a good while over the last few months but I doubt it could ever compete or even get close to an engine like Unity or UDK (especially in our spare time as open source).
It would suck to go down the third route but to be honest I have a feeling the only benefit a fan-game maker would have over GDK is not having the UDK baggage and so it may not be worth it in the long run.
What is everyone's opinion? -

We also get to see some of the great tweaks Dashtube has made to existing parts of the island. It's looking better all the time.
Also, you wouldn't believe how many people have come our way on youtube, the sega forum, and even here offering to compose music for us. I'm tired of turning them all down (we can only say yes to one person), so we're going to hold a contest in the coming months for that. Just seems like the best course of action to take to ensure that we find the best music we can for this.
I really like how the game is coming along. Although as Faseeh said already there is no need to have only one musician. Taking a page out of ATS's book wouldn't be a bad idea because you can then get lots of different takes on the levels and see what fits. -

Apparently Bullet3d development libraries are not in the default repositories of Ubuntu 12.04 (though in later versions). I could implement a workaround, but it'll also requiring updating the build instructions and we've already had someone bring up this issue on IRC.
I'm wondering, could you take the Bullet stuff out and put it in a separate branch? I'm sorry for the trouble, but since it's a big change I think we might hold off on putting it into main until we've got everything resolved. What do you think?
Sure, no problem! I'll get it setup tonight.
EDIT: Done. It looks like it doesn't show up on the Overview tab which branch I have committed to, but clicking the commits tab clearly shows I am in the 'Relick' branch.
