Has anyone had issues with playing the Sonic 2 which is pre-installed on new Amazon Fire TVs? If I pass the signpost as Super Sonic on any level, the game kicks me out back to the Amazon Fire TV "dashboard" where you select games. Most boss levels seem to be ok with it though. There have been other times that issue happened when I wasn't even Super Sonic, like upon clearing Hidden Palace Zone right after jumping on the capsule.

Also I want to say the new way the Special Stages behave is very disorienting. I managed to clear them all but it was very frustrating sometimes not being able to see the upcoming rings as well as I could in the original version. They look really cool, yes but they just don't seem to play as well.

Yes, it's a bug related to the GameCircle software, see http://forums.sonicr...37

Taxman, would it be possible for you to fix this bug?

I don't know, technically the code for GameCircle achievements in Sonic 2 is identical to Sonic 1's yet Sonic 1 doesn't exhibit crashes. Would it be possible to get a logcat of the crash as it happens? I don't have the retail hardware of the Fire TV so I can't check this on my end.

    Taxman posted this on NeoGAF:

I'm working on my own original IP/Game right now, amongst other things... so no 3mastered sorry. I put the proof of concept video for my portfolio once it was a dead project.

I know Stealth is keen to complete it if the chance ever came up, but personally I would need to complete my stuff first (and that will be a WHILE) before I would think to consider it again.

Anyway, here's hoping Sonic Team bring their A-game next year!

So he lacks the time to commit to the project due to pressing and immediate obligations that hold more importance to him. So even if we'd succeeded it doesn't look like Taxman would have been able to agree to the project in the immediate future. Obviously we didn't know this back in January when the campaign started but at least now we do.

To put it in context, I was responding to a thread about Aaron talking about projects being in the works for Sonic's 25th Anniversary - Sonic 3k largely being a hot assumption. So when I say "no 3mastered", I don't mean EVER per se.

I think it's difficult for you guys to try and read into the time frame of things, when so much goes on for me behind the scenes. Given I run my studio as a solo gunslinger (contracting other people if necessary like Stealth), I can only develop one full new game at a time (working smaller jobs like code maintenance/tech/demos etc in between). So the community running their campaign as if success meant immediate continued development (or me dropping other work) would definitely be misguided. I can't promise anything, but believe me, I know the vocal demand for this game, and Sega Networks does too. If the right circumstances come up to work on Sonic 3k in future, I'd love to finish it off and complete the series.

The new game I'm working on has high res cartoony graphics. I'd call it Dreamcast+ as far as aesthetic goes. I ended up creating my own 3D engine because UE4 has high system requirements and royalties to pay, and I wanted to continue coding gameplay in the same style I'm used to in C/C++, which Unity doesn't use. I'm still months away from having enough content done to show anything yet, but rest assured I'm eager to reveal it!

So I guess we should expect the graphics engine to be akin to the UbiArt Framework engine? Because that would be glorious.

As for Sonic 4 getting delisted on mobile, eh. Not gonna lose sleep over it as those games were far from good (sequels), but it's not like this gesture means anything about what to expect in the future.

I wish! heh. Less UbiArt, more Kingdom Hearts, Jet Set Radio. Just some nice colourful diffuse texturing on 3D models. It's a fully 3D game, gameplay wise, so the 2D popup look Rayman has would be difficult for me to do anyway. If Yooka-Laylee is the revival of collectathon 3D platformers. Consider my game to be the antithesis repping the PS1/Dreamcast side.

The Retro Engine is designed for pixel art games (so anything from 8 - 32bit really) so a Sonic 4 "demake" with Chaotix quality art would be no probs. If you just wanted the same 2.5D Sonic 4 but with better everything, I'd either use my own 3D engine (used on my yet to be announce new game), or any of the other industry standard engines like UE4, Unity etc (more likely since there's no way I'd want to do something of that scope with just myself :v:/>/>/>/>/> )

You've mentioned in the past that the Retro Engine is capable of Saturn-esque polygonal visuals. Is your new 3D engine going to be aiming for more recent visual capabilities? Also, upon reading you're working on something new, be aware I will now be watching your Twitter like a hawk :specialed:/>

Yeah, the 3D stuff in the Retro Engine is all done in software, so it intentionally looks primitive. For example, I was going for a "Model 1" look with the Sonic 2 Remastered Special Stages, imagining they'd done some super arcade version of Sonic 2 in an alternate universe :P

Maybe Sonic 4 got taken down for Taxman's Sonic 4 Remastered.

    </Completely wishful thinking>

Completely stupid question but could a theoretical Sonic 4 remastered be done on the Retro Engine?

It depends on what you want out of a "Sonic 4 Remastered" really. The Retro Engine is designed for pixel art games (so anything from 8 - 32bit really) so a Sonic 4 "demake" with Chaotix quality art would be no probs. If you just wanted the same 2.5D Sonic 4 but with better everything, I'd either use my own 3D engine (used on my yet to be announce new game), or any of the other industry standard engines like UE4, Unity etc (more likely since there's no way I'd want to do something of that scope with just myself :v:/> )

Getting the Classic-Style gameplay mechanics doesn't need a specific engine, just the right know-how. And of course, that's completely underplaying the importance of level design, which also makes and breaks a Sonic game!

    EDIT:
I should say that I personally feel Sonic 4 is a chapter best left closed. There's much more exciting stuff you could do with Classic Sonic not being tied down to it's story or naming expectations.
