Rescanning and Extracting - bringing old art to the new age
07 May 2014 - 11:01 AM
I recently grabbed a Japanese copy of Sonic Drift 2, and realised what shitty scans we used to have of old manuals. Good for the year of 2004 when we originally scanned them, but man! They're tiny now.
Recently I've been kind of into extracting old artwork (which Sonic & Segaretro are very helpful with) and remembered that I did try and extract some of that cool artwork from Sonic Drift 2 using those old scans Safe to say they weren't the best, but it was the best we had:

Well now thanks to my new copy of the game, and my work's 600dpi scanner, I've given the Sonic Drift 2 page a big art uplift. Brand new Super-rediculous scans of each page are now in the manual page, and through some long and exhausting photoshop work I've extracted all the artwork at massive sizes and added them to the page, as well as Logos and Cover scans.
So now Fang looks a little more like this:

I also got copies of Sonic 2 and Sonic Drift 2 on Game Gear as wel, and I'll add them in a few weeks.
What other old artwork or manuals are we looking to get new versions of? Right now most of my older games of this type are in another state, but if some pop up I'll definitely get them rescanned. -
CVG #115 - Sonic 1 images not scanned before!
19 April 2007 - 10:54 AM

Scanned from a magazine I recently got. More weird signs in Scrap Brain, More flying saucers in Marble Zone, The "PRESS START" title screen, a weird Special Stage design [I believe], wierd physics in Star Light [I don't think Sonic's turned correctly on that slope, plus the loop], and a dead end in Scrap Brain, and Sonic jumping at the score screen.
Enjoy
PS. SoST isn't being updated anymore, I have no time for it, so love it for what it is

Sonic Crackers ROM release info?

[plugged in hope I can get more board traffic :P]
Basically, some fellow "inf" has sent me an old OLD '96 ROM release list, for all those happy uber-nerds with disk systems and access to BSS. It mentions the release of Sonic Crackers!
MOR-SONC.LZH P 434972 07-15-96 __ __ _____ ____ ____ _____ __ __ __ __ DL: 4 | || | | .. \| | |__|__| || | | \/ | | | .. | |__| | | | | .. | | || | | | | \ | | \ | | | | || | |__||__|____/|_| |_|__ |_____/. | .|__||__| :-))) Morgoth (((-: \_| Lord of Darkness *** [Sonic Crack 32X Beta ] *** *** *** *** [Sega/SMD/08Mbit/PAL] [PL!] *** ===========> Greetz fly to All <=========== [======== Evil Empire BBS Belgium =========]

So a chap called MORGOTH released it back on 15th September, 1996. I highly doubt he'd still be around, but who knows?
He's also mentioned that in his 1994 release list, a Sonic & Knuckles was released by Paradox, but they later released a "US final patch", so their copy probably wasn't a final build... I'll see if he'll send me that list
