Topics I've Started

  1. New Sonic 1 boss info?

    17 December 2005 - 12:34 PM

http://www.sega-16.com/Video%20Commercial%...ve%20Europe.wmv (direct link to Save As...; Sega16.com video page)

Take a look at 0:06 onward. There's new, interesting footage of the Green Hill Zone boss.

EDIT: Damn. Anyone who can find me the Pirate TV Sega ads that broadcast in the UK will be my hero
  2. Music player idea

    28 November 2005 - 07:27 PM

    1. Source ROM.
    2. Player which emulates Mega Drive's sound cores. Similar to YMAmp or whatever.
    3. Small files that point to data locations in the ROM.

The way it would work is thus: One small file is created for every known sound effect we know of in the ROM. It contains information about where the data is found, and where it stops. This mimicks how and where the MD looks for music and such. This data is fed to the player, which loads the data in the file from the ROM.

This will allow for exact replication of the Mega Drive's capabilities - looping, for example. It would also work for any ROM, as long as the music data locations were known. A CRC or header checker could also make sure the right small files were used for the right ROM.

    Possible?
  3. New Sonic 1 image?

^ Taken from Sonic the Comic #2, the article is supposed to be describing Sonic 2 SMS cheats.

Notice the 'Ring', and I think Robotnik's head is angled slightly downwards.

Am I going nuts, or what?

EDIT: Different location too, check the rear river and cliff background.
  4. Current-Gen Haters Callout

    26 July 2005 - 01:34 PM

In response to the negativity around Heroes, Sonic Adventure, the Advance series, etc. etc., I'm calling you current-gen haters out. Simply answer my riddle thus:

You are head of Sonic Team. You have total control over the next Sonic the Hedgehog game in development. What will this game be like?

Describe the perfect next-gen Sonic game you want in detail - if you cop-out with 'better collision', 'better plot', 'better music' or whatever, you automatically fail. Let's see what we get here.
  5. Confirmed cart-based prototypes

    08 May 2005 - 09:55 AM

We all know the only known dump of the Sonic 2 proto is a poorly-hacked bootleg. But, how many prototype Sonic games do we know of that are in existance and in cart/cd/whatever form? For example, we have the dumped Sonic 2 beta; does anyone own a copy of this on a cart?

So far the list is as follows: (format is game;system;notes)

Sonic 1 - Game Gear - dumped OK, unknown owner

Sonic 2 - Mega Drive - dumped poorly, no known owner
Sonic 3 - Mega Drive - undumped, owned by LocalH on EPROM
Sonic 3D - Mega Drive - undumped, owned by Italian eBay bidder
Sonic Crackers - Mega Drive - two known dumps, one overdump and one regular. No known owner, but is on sale for $600. Ask Rika Chou for details if your wallet is deep enough :)

Sonic CD (7-12) - Mega CD - owned by PACHUKA; rest of Sonic CD prototypes dumped by 'Profound Darkness' in ISO+mp3 format

Does anyone have anything to add to this? Post a reply and I'll update where relevant.
