S3&K Glitches Guide
24 January 2005 - 12:12 AM
Okay, this is my first "big" post since becoming a Trial Member. This is what I call the "Sonic 3 & Knuckles Glitches, Oddities, and Mysteries Guide". This is something I wrote myself without any knowlage of hacking or any tools but the game itself. The idea is a compilation of weird stuff in S3&K, ALL of which I discovered ON MY OWN. I'm stressing that point, because some of this stuff is probably already known, or else blatently obvious for anyone with any hacking knowlage. The reason I'm posting it is twofold: first, there MAY be some stuff here that nobody knows about (if I specialize in any one Sonic game, it's S3&K - I spend a LOT if time playing it on my laptop in the car). And second, I want to prove that I can figure things out for myself. I found, studied, and reproduced everything in here myself. I also drew my own conclusions based on my findings, without any outside knowlage. Okay, now that you know why it's here, here's an address to it's page on my website (so as not to stretch the forums too much): www.cocoaresearcher.com/lemming/S3&K_G_O_M.htm
Read it if you please, and leave any feedback here (obviously)
By the way, as I mentioned, all of the conclusions were drawn without outside knowlage. So if they seem almost totally baseless or wrong, it's because they are!
Enjoy!
P.S. - I'm sorry if some of the descriptions are "long and fandangled". This is kinda hard to do without screenshots! Also, all of this was found on the PC "Sonic & Knuckles Collection"
P.P.S. - Yes, to anyone who's asking, I'm taking submissions, and I'll give credit where credit is due. Just use my format. -
Sonic 3 & Knuckles oddities
13 July 2004 - 03:57 PM
Okay, I've been sitting on this for a while now, but I was waiting for the flurry of idiotic/pointless trial member topics to die down, which obviously isn't going to happen any time soon. For the record, I know I am a trial member too, but I didn't want this to get lost in the fog with DannyAndShadowTails, Kage-Kami, et cetera. Anyway...
In Sonic & Knuckles Collection (PC) I've noticed a few odd things when playing Sonic 3 & Knuckles:
In Marble Gardens Zone (Act 2, I think) there is a slope coming from the right out of a secret passageway. It starts out flat, then goes to the normal hill slope, then it becomes a really steep hill, which levels out after a bit. If you start at the top of the hill, and walk slowly down to the really steep part (it might take more than one try) Sonic will be unneffected by the angle of the ground, and will be able to walk up and down the really steep hill as though it were flat ground until you either jump, or walk to a place where the angle changes!
In Ice Cap Zone (either act) if you have Sonic stand on any of the breakable ice blocks (the ones that sometimes have item moniter inside) and then use the player two controls to command Tails to break it, sonic won't fall, but will display his ledge animation in mid-air. You can then walk left and right, roll, duck, et cetera, without losing hight. If you jump, it will just reset the altitude (I.E., if you walk off the platform, you'll still be floating). If you jump onto a slope, you will change trajectory so that you walk at the angle of the slope instead of straight left and right. Example: If you jump while floating onto a " / " slope, then move right, Sonic will go diagonally up and right.
I think there might have been a third glitch, but I can't remember right now. I'll refresh my memory tonight with a nice long play on my laptop. I'll also edit this post with a more detailed location of the MGZ slope when I have it.
Sorry if these things were already known, but I haven't seen anything about this anywhere. -
Casino Night/Dust Hill?
31 March 2004 - 05:46 PM
Hello, this is my first post.
I've held a theory for a while involving the S2B Casino Night Zone, and the desert level popularly called "Dust Hill Zone". In the Brenda Ross interview, it was mentioned that the second level of "Dust Hill" involved a pallet change that would change the sand into snow. Also, I believe that the beta Casino Night Zone's second Act had a different pallet from the first Act, correct? My theory is that Casino Night Zone was created over the remains (or possibly just the "foundation") of the desert level, which might account for the pallet change in the second Act of both Zones! As for the level pointers, I don't really have an explination as to why both Zones are present in the beta, but even if my initial theory is not correct, perhaps the levels are connected in some other way?
I've been thinking about this for a while now, and I really would value some experienced insight. I am not the most prolific hacker in the world, so please forgive me if this theory it a bit hole-ridden. I have to start somewhere though, right?
