  1. Sonic X Licensed by Discotek Media

    07 April 2015 - 04:04 PM

First off guys, in recent news, Discotek Media recently picked up the rights to the Sonic X series and plans to release the dub on DVD sometime in the future, as a complete series set. This is good news, as it means the series is in good hands.

The bad? Dub only for now, as they're not sure about the Japanese version. This is the important part I want to bring up.

What I'm asking you guys is to post over at Discotek's announcement post, which you can see here, and request the Japanese version of Sonic X from them. Although I understand that there is a lot of disinterest in the series from various fans, some with the actual show or the dub produced for it, but I absolutely want to see this show get a chance to be release in it's original form, here in the states. While it is available through Hulu, I do want this to have a physical release.

So please, contact Discotek through their Facebook and request this!
  2. Sonic X is no longer licensed in the United States

    03 October 2014 - 06:55 AM

So, it's been awhile since I've posted here, but I figure I'd mention this.

After 11 years of the series being on air and distributed in the United States, Sonic X's airing finally came to an end with the closure of the Vortexx. However, that's not the only thing that has ended. Back around April of this year, a forum user on the Saban Talkback thread, over at Toonzone, had hinted that Sonic X would be gone for good this fall. However, some had speculated it just meant the end of the Vortexx block, once that news had hit. However, that is not the case.

As of the beginning of this month, Sonic X's license with Saban Brands has ended. The rights have been reverted back to TMS Entertainment, based off information on Hulu's publisher for the series. What this essentially means that Saban can no longer legally distribute or sell the series in the states. However, this does open the possibility of someone else picking the series and re-distributing the series on DVD over here.

As for digital distribution, TMS Entertainment appears to be continuing distribution on Hulu, so for people who want to watch the series (Subbed or Dubbed), it's all available still.

Honestly, if anyone wants to see the series distributed on DVD again here in the states, I'd personally recommend inquiring Discotek Media. The company, though small, has a very good relationship with TMS Entertainment, releasing quite a number of their titles, such as the Lupin series, Sherlock Hound, Cyber Six, and such. Plus, they've been known to release their series both in Dubbed and Subtitled fashion, even for shows that were Edited only, though through separate releases. Having owned their releases, they're generally high quality and seem to actually care about what they put out, even reaching out to fans to help out with their releases sometimes.

Their facebook is located here, if anyone wants to ask them.
  3. Junpei Takiguchi, voice of OVA Eggman, passed away.

    29 August 2011 - 09:43 AM

He was 80 years old... Apparently it was due to stomach cancer.

So that's another Eggman VA that's passed away on us. Best wishes to his friend's and family.

If anyone wants to see a list of what this guy has done, you can check at ANN and Wikipedia (JP / ENG).
  4. Sonic X - Available Uncut by 4Kids on Hulu and Youtube

    03 April 2010 - 03:49 AM

    http://www.hulu.com/sonic-x

Subtitled only, but better than nothing.

Edit: 4Kids has started to upload the subtitled episodes to 4KidsTV's Youtube channel as well. First 5 are up as of this posting.

EDIT #2: Hulu now has up to episode 29. Youtube as of this writing, has the first 26 episodes uploaded.

EDIT #3: Hulu has all episodes of the first series uploaded ( 1 - 52 ). Youtube has up to atleast episode 39. 4Kids will begin releasing 53 - 78 starting on April 1st. I assume it'll be a weekly release.
  5. Sonic X Subtitled to be released on Hulu

    22 August 2009 - 11:17 AM

4Kids announced that Sonic X will be heading to Hulu in the next couple of weeks, which is what I assume they hinted they had some really "Cool" news regarding it a couple weeks ago. Although, there was some bad news regarding Yugioh DM, the other two series will be released with subtitles (with 5D's getting an HD upload to youtube).

Now, the problem with this though, is that even the Canadian viewers will be locked out from checking it out. Although, from what I initially heard, it wouldn't have been much better on youtube, since I guess 4Kids only has streaming rights in the US.

At anyrate, I'm really happy with this news, although upset at the limitations are imposed on this. The quality will definitely be better than youtube though, provided 4Kids doesn't take a cheap route on encoding the said content. Hopefully this works out and more shows of theirs will be added to Hulu as well.
