I think you're clutching at straws. There's no direct connection between the model in the devkit and the model we see in Xtreme stuff.

Except that the two models are almost identical, save only for the texturing and lighting.

Even the second image you linked to shows that very distinctly. The body is nearly the same shape and the head and eyes as well. If we had clearer images, it would be more obvious, but sadly we don't. If I had access to that model, I could prove it by superimposing it over the screenshots. I would lay any money you like that they would match near perfectly.

I'm not trying to imply and great deep philosophical meaning to it, just pointing out that the models seem too similar to be unrelated. This doesn't mean that the Sonic model has to be from Xtreme at all, or even that the land section is either. At first I thought the Sonic model might be the same one from the demo animation, but after looking at it again, I realized it wasn't.

As a matter of fact... *opens Photoshop*

    Here, is this connection enough?

    As I said, nearly identical.

That Metal Sonic was most definately from Sonic X-Treme. It's been seen in videos.

No, you've seen Metal Sonic in videos. No evidence at all that that model is anything other than a sample model.

It may not be from extreme directly, but it's almost certainly the same model. Comparisons between it and the screen shots are almost too clear to deny.

Now, if you mean that that particular version (texturing and whatever minor tweaks were done to it) was not used in Extreme, then yeah, I can see what you mean. But the fact that it is almost identical raises questions about the rest of the Sonic-related 3D things found in that dev-kit. They may not be from Extreme, but might have come from the same era.

Another possible scenario is that the model seen in the Extreme screens was just a place-holder and was default from a Saturn dev-kit. However, given what Fang looked like, I would say that the model seen is almost certainly the final (in whatever way an unfinished game could be 'final') version.

    *raises an eyebrow*

Wasn't there.. a 3D model of sonic that was thought to somehow relate to Sonic Extreme? I think, if memory serves, it was found in a Saturn development kit.

Hmm.. looking at it, I'm not sure now if that model really fits what we see in that animation, but it was just a thought.

Looks neat.. Looks like that could have been a cool game XD

Yeah, these are old. Old, old, old, old.

I remember them being debated. The comparisons and etc. Yeah, all fake, all old, all rotten.. the dead marshes, yes! That is their name.. yes, precious..

    Wait.. what was I saying?

So yeah. Interesting tidbit: If I am not entirely mistaken the bricks behind sonic in that second one (and the little burning lamp-thingy) are leftovers in the S2 Beta ROM, but not actually from Sonic 2 (or any Sonic game) at all, but from a beta of an entirely different game. Go figure XD

As a matter of fact, the second of those two images is covered right on this very site. Look here.

    *comes out of lurking mode*

As a certain Sci-Fi character would say: "Fascinating"

Neat to see the evolution of Tiara. That last one seems to most resemble what we can probably guess is her final form, as seen here.. Or, at any rate, as final as she ever got.

The game play footage looks promising, although clearly not in-game footage.

But this was before it was called Sonic Extreme, you say? More to come? Hmm..

I have a feeling that this is only the tip of the proverbial iceberg.
