  1. Quick question regarding Xbox 360 disk drives

    15 February 2013 - 02:25 AM

So I picked up a two Xbox 360's from a local goodwill for cheap. The first had red ring, so I fixed it, and it initially played games and so forth. However, once the software on it updated when I connected it to Xbox live, it stopped playing games, instead reading them as DVD's. I got stumped how to fix this.

The second one had both red ring and also a mechanically bad DVD drive. However, I managed to fix the DVD drive. Being adventurous, too lazy to fix the second Xbox's red ring, and stumped how to fix the first Xbox's DVD drive, I placed the DVD drive from the second Xbox into the first Xbox. According to all the research I had done, it should not have worked, since the processor and DVD drive are supposed to be linked. However, it actually booted, and ran games on a fully updated Xbox. The only thing I can figure is that both consoles are mid 2006 manufactured Xbox's, being made only 4 months apart.

My question is what are the chances that the transplanted DVD drive is suddenly going to quit working because of incompatibility due to the drive and the processor being from different systems?
  2. Rate the Sonic ________

    03 January 2006 - 07:38 PM

A day to day poll, in which the topic asks members to rate things from Sonic Games on a scale from 1 to 10. At the end of a 24 hour period, the results are averaged. (to add longevity, due to the finite amount of game characters, eventaully Badniks will be put into the chrater mix, shoudl the topic last that long.)

    Rules:

    1. Polls will last 24 hours from the time the I issue the post. After that 24 hour period, votes for that day will NOT be counted. No exceptions.

    2. Decimals are fine

    3. You may NOT vote on a game, charater, or level unless you have actually played a game with the aforementioned (IE, no ragging on Shadow unless you've actually played one of the games he was in; SA2, Sonic Heroes, Sonic Battle, or Shadow the Hedgehog). Of course, I can't keep you from lying, but please use the honors system.

Topic will be updated daily or as often as possible.

Creator's Note: I am also doing this on Sonic World, where there is more of an new school fan presence. I'll also add the votes there with the ones on this MB. If you want, you are allowed to post this topic at other MB's I don't attend to get a wider voting pool, as long as the rules are followed the day's poll is the same.

So, for the frist day's poll:

    RATE!

    Game: Sonic the Hedgehog (MD)

2D Level: Green Hill Zone (S1)

3D Level: Green Hill Zone (SA2)

    Character: Sonic the Hedgehog

Poll closes 6:38 PM January 4th 2006! (Central Time)
  3. I seriously doubt there is...

    28 October 2005 - 11:43 PM

Is there any notes on Sonic 3D Blast, or is that largely unexplored and undocumented?

EDIT: And while I'm at it, is there any decent hex editor besides Hex Workshop? Trial ran out, and I'm at a loss ot find a good one that can compare files for differences in data.
  4. I think one of the main problems...

    28 October 2005 - 10:08 AM

    Level Gimmicks.

You know, stuff like the tubes in Chemical Plant, or earthquakes in Hill Top. Or even things as simple as the unique enemies in evey level. Almost evey level in the older generation of games tried to have a unique thing about them that no other level had. Even the Game Gear Games did this!

This came to my minds because I remember people saying about Heroes and the Advance games that they are boring and repetitive. This is because each level kept recycling the same objects and never really disposed of them after the level they were introduced.

When a game keeps reusing these gimmicks over and over again, they gameplay does get boring. We alreay know how to use a Tornado jump to use one of those poles, we don't need them every 100 feet in evey level after Grand Metropolis (to show an example in Sonic Heroes).

Even in though many levels in the old games reused the tube gimmick, they weren't exactly the same. Compare the Chemical Plant tubes to the Metropolis warp tubes, or the Green Hill ones to the Hill Top ones. Even though they are essentially the same, they did it in a differnt way that adds a fresh face to the gameplay.
