  1. Why haven't fiat file systems displaced databases?

    26 June 2011 - 01:04 PM

After seeing how MoinMoin uses plain old text files to store their information, and seeing how the Python, Ubuntu, and FreeBSD wikis (all of which use MoinMoin) haven't been raped security-wise, why haven't file-based information systems displaced traditional SQL databases? The way I see it, software like PostgreSQL require significantly more bureaucratic procedure to modify information, and it doesn't seem like all of that is necessary.

Sorry if I look like a fool for overlooking <obvious advantage>, but might someone be kind enough to explain one?
  2. What do you hate the most about GNU/Linux software?

    30 January 2011 - 12:39 PM

I'm trying to compile a specific list of issues regarding GNU/Linux software, and I figure this would be a good place to start. Feel free to complain about issues involving usability (X has a bad name, its user interface looks ugly, etc...), developer related problems (the code-base is non-modular, drivers have poor support, etc...), or anything else that concretely affects the quality of software. Complaints about how GNU/Linux solely comprises a bunch of stupid neck-beards*, how proprietary software is inherently superior to free software, how everything should be written in x86 assembly. and other obvious trolling attempts will be silently ignored.

*However, complaints about how developers or the community tends to be nasty and anti-social when replying to issues are valid.
  3. ASM Introduction?

    21 December 2006 - 11:48 PM

I am considering learning how ASM programming works, since it's much more flexible than working with raw machine code.

I know about Hacking Cult and their tutorial, however, I am totally ignorant when it comes to any scripting language. The best I know is HTML/CSS and other web-related mark-up languages.

If possible, could someone with technical experience help point me to a tutorial or some body of writing/text that could help me familiarize myself with the 68k Assembly language?

    Thanks in advance.
  4. Knuckles Chaotex Theory

    03 February 2004 - 11:01 PM

I noticed that in sonic crackers sonic has a similar pallet as Metal sonic in K.C. In other sonic games, metal sonic has a very similar pallet as sonic (except for silver sonic :D ). So, does anybody has any thought's about this obervation?
