  1. Any differences between old and new StH releases?

    03 February 2005 - 01:06 AM

Quick question here: has anyone made note of any noticable differences (Other than the return to main menu function) between the original release of StH and the "Plug-n-Play TV Games" re-release currently out now?
  2. Overclock the Sega Genesis

    30 June 2004 - 11:21 PM

Earlier tonight on G4TechTV's "The Screen Savers" they showed how to overclock the 68K CPU on the Sega Genesis from about 8MHz to 13MHz to help avoid slowdowns in gameplay, WITHOUT replacing the CPU or any of the other components (Something most Genesis OC pages talk about), just by modding existing components.

A slowdown example they showed is the splitscreen two-player mode in Sonic 2. Anyone who's ever played two-player mode in S2 knows that the game slows to a literal crawl for a few seconds whenever one or both of the players happens to lose their rings, or in other situations where there is a large number of sprites on the screen. After enabling the overclock mod (Which they did via a pair of switches added to the back of the case), they showed one of the players losing their rings again, and there was no lag at all.

Although I realize many here already know how to do this, I just thought it would be something neat to share for those who may not know, or for those who knew about it but were wanting technical details. Here are a couple links regarding this project:

  3. WOW, a very nice Sonic flash game

    25 February 2004 - 01:27 AM

Hey, a friend just sent me this link to a quite GOOD flash-based Sonic game. I've been playing it for a few minutes, and other than running a little slow (Most likely due to my craptastically obsolete computer), it is surprisingly nice!

Directly from the description: The game has 4 playable characters at the beginning and 2 secret characters to unlock. the game features a password-saver so you don't have to start it all over again.

If you wish to see this game, visit this link: http://newgrounds.co...w.php?id=151706 (NOTICE: Possible adult content and popup alert on this link, unfortunately this is the only page hosting the game at the moment)

I've been having fun with it, I hope you all do too!
  4. My lame music remix

    11 February 2004 - 01:16 AM

What can I say? I got bored.

Anyway, earlier I was playing around with Gens, opening a ROM then loading random savestates for other games to see what weird things I can make happen. While doing so, I stumbled across a "stripped-down" version of the background music from EHZ in Sonic 2. Except for the first 8 seconds during which the melody is missing, the melody itself is still there, along with some percussion and one other instrument, but the rest of the instruments are missing. Obviously loading an incorrect savestate scrambled the code for the now missing instruments. I thought it sounded kinda neat. Then I came up with this odd remix idea.

Essentially, it starts off with this stripped-down version of the EHZ music, then it becomes the regular (And complete) EHZ music. For some strange reason, this remix of mine reminds me of an intro theme to a movie or TV show.

Anyway, if for some demented reason anyone is interested, you can download it here (900KB MP3).

Yeah I know, it sucks. Well...I tried at least. Hey, what can you expect from someone using a WAV editor nearly 10 years old and an MP3 encoder riddled with spyware?
  5. 2P oddity in S2B

    07 February 2004 - 04:40 PM

I realize the chances that this is already known is 99.99999999999%, but I just noticed something odd while playing around with 2P mode in S2B, and my puny brain felt it was worth mentioning.

When actually playing with Tails in 2P mode, when he dies, he respawns back at the beginning of the level, just as he should. I tested this in Green Hill Zone and know that to be a fact.

But, while watching the demos, I noticed something during the GHZ 2P demo (The second demo in the sequence). At 17 seconds into the demo, Tails dies, but then respawns in the same spot where he died instead of going back to the beginning of the level.

I think that's weird. Maybe there's two different versions of the 2P code, and the demo is calling on an earlier revision from before the "go back to beginning" code was put in?
