Sonic 3 Resort Island

Hello there Sonic Retro
Originally I worked on a hack called S3K a new lease of life. This was only ever going to include new level layouts and pallettes with a few other changes. But since the release of the split disassembly, the project has evolved greatly since then. So for a start I'd like to outline the plot for my hack:
Story
It has been 16 years since the events on Angel Island. With Sonic, Tails and Knuckles now good friends, they decide to take a holiday to the neighboring Resort Island. A land where the party never stops. Sunny beaches, a bustling city with lots of activities for our heroes to enjoy. Even two theme parks and a music festival to throw into the mix. For the more cultured side, a trip to see the Indian Palaces or the old citadel which looks down onto the resort would definitely be in order.
All seems well in this sprawling place, but unfortunatley not.
Pulseman has been requested by Blaze who owns this wonderful place to build a new attraction called the Stargazer One. An orb shaped station designed to take holiday makers into space without the need of astronaut equipment. She has allowed permission for it to be built in the Radon Ravine, the power station of the island which safely harnesses the power of Radon without risk of poisonous fumes. Little does Blaze know that Pulseman really wants to build the Stargazer One to take over the island and end all parties in the world.
I could say that Sonic, Tails and Knuckles are all in it together, but due to an error with bookings, Knuckles' holiday comes two days after Sonic & Tails. With no time to spare, can Pulseman's plot be revealed and stopped before it is too late?

Planned Features
14 New and exciting zones with new art, layouts and music etc.
First 8 zones to have a really feel good and cheery atmosphere. Then halfway through zone 9, a darker turn makes the game more eerie as you get closer to exposing Pulseman's evil scheme.
Blaze as the guardian of Resort Island and whom is tricked into believing Sonic and Tails are the foe.
Pulseman as the main antagonist for Sonic and Tails.
Knuckles to have is very own storyline and antagonist (More details to come soon)
New special stage layouts.
Custom art for titlescreen, data select etc.
Whole new music score.
Edited Boss Fights.
Characters from other games making Easter Egg appearances in almost every zone.
Zip Through The Zones
Ocean Valley: A bustling beach area. Ideal for parties, Volleyball and a fun time.
Aquapolis: Its non stop slides at the world's biggest water park.
Sunset Vista: Take a cultural tour of Resort Island's historical citadel. Who lived here before?
Dizzy Ravehall: Get yourself looking good and party all night in the biggest club that Resort Island's nightlife can offer you. Everybody will know the DJ.
Bonbon Bonanza: If you love sweets, you'll love this place.
Radon Ravine: The hub of all Resort Island's power. Harnessing Radon makes this place very eco friendly. But what is being constructed in the background?
Noon Festival: At 12pm everyday, let the festival commence until the early hours of the morning. See all the latest bands here.
Aerial Casino: Gamble as much as you want, the sky's the limit. (Quite literally)
Bengal Maze: Explore the beautiful Indian architecture and admire the beautiful shrubs. But going inside the maze complex is not a good idea.
Obsidian Beds: The long forgotten underworld of Resort Island. Watch out! things get hot down here.
Lunar Shrine: A mystic place that holds the key to many revelations.
Fury Fortress: The evil castle that hangs ominously high in the sky. Doesn't look very stable though.
Stargazer One: The new attraction that has a deadly secret. You must bring down this place.
Cosmos Carnage: This is it! Stop that evil plan once and for all!

Radon Ravine

Credit must go to the wonderful DerZocker from the spriters resource for the new foreground art. Whats interesting here is that the building explosion at the end of act 1 now causes all the elevators and some platforms to be destroyed for when Knuckles takes on this act in his story. It opens up new areas but also creates a new set of challenges for him to take on. Also, those cranes in the background now have small animations and even light up when you trigger an alarm gate.
Bonbon Bonanza

Just mainly background art for both acts to show here. Foreground art yet to be started. But here is an example of a character from another game making an Easter Egg appearance. (Also that train does move automatically)
Bengal Maze

Going for a more Labyrinth Zone style here. You can see act 1 is bright and happy but act 2 is where the darker side of the story begins.

What sort of level layout designer are you?

I thought this would be an interesting thing to talk about.
I am a level layout designer who loves to start with a blank canvas. In any level I like to delete all or most of the original layout and just start from scratch letting my imagination run completely wild. I prefer this style because it allows me to get very creative with my level layouts.
So how do you like to design level layouts? -

As you may well know, I have been working on the hack, Sonic Redemption. But I have also been working on a S3K hack. I plan to have completely new levels, pallettes etc. I have compiled a montage of screenshots of the hack. Enjoy.
