Topics I've Started

  1. Using a Sega Saturn with a weird PC monitor

    07 February 2015 - 06:31 PM

I just bought a PC monitor that has a VGA input, but also RGBHV BNC inputs. Can I use my Saturn with it without having to buy an upscaler or other doohickey? I'm handy with a soldering iron, so if I have to get dirty I will.
  2. Weird HDMI issue

    01 February 2015 - 04:43 PM

I'm pretty sure it's just the GPU going wonky or the PSU acting up, but I wanted a second opinion on this. Here's what's going on.

I've got my DLP TV connected to my GPU with a straight HDMI cable, and another LCD tv connected with an HDMI cable going through a DVI adapter. The LCD TV has no issues, but the DLP TV will seem to lose the HDMI connection whenever I play a video. It happens most frequently with flash videos, but it can happen with an MKV too. Doesn't matter if the video is full screen or not.

Now, my DLP TV is 73" and the LCD is only 22", and it doesn't matter how I switch the ports around, it's only the DLP TV that has this issue. I have another LCD TV that doesn't work too well, but I'm pretty sure that's an issue with the HDMI handshake or something. The computer detects it just fine, but the TV won't show anything. PSU is a 700w, GPU is a 570.
  3. GDEMU is all done.

    23 April 2014 - 06:05 AM

This was brought up a while ago by someone here but I just can't find the post. So I'm bringing it up again.

GDEMU is a hardware emulator of the Dreamcast GD-ROM by the Makaron dev. Though he's finally started selling boards, the first run is sold out. He builds each one by hand and has been having a hard time navigating the web of customs bull too, but he says he's looking into options. A second run of these marvelous things seems likely, at least.

They currently go for €100 each.

EDit: It just occurred to me that this might've been better in Technical Discussion.
  4. Gaming with a VM

    12 April 2014 - 10:14 PM

I'm interested in migrating to Linux for a few reasons, but there's a couple of games that I still want to play that I can't play natively. Pretty much my entire library, if you care to look.

Thing I want to know is, are there any special considerations I should make for playing games through a virtual machine?
  5. Hypothetical Theoretical YM2612 Synth

    06 April 2014 - 08:12 PM

What would you have to do to turn a Genesis into a YM2612 synth?
