  1. Sonic the Hedgehog Arcade & Mega Drive/Genesis Differences?

    30 June 2009 - 01:45 AM

I've noticed that for most games, the quality of graphics, sound and whatnot were usually the best on the arcade medium. They would usually get tweaked or trimmed for home console releases (either for the better or worse) but compared to earlier '80s games, the ports were pretty faithful.

This got me wondering... I remember Sonic 1 and 2 being in the arcades, but I had never really got the chance to play them (I played them on my Genesis instead). I hadn't really been able to find anything discussing the arcade versions of the games and I wondered if there were any real differences between the arcade versions of Sonic 1/2 and the console versions?

Usually there are at least a small amount of changes and/or alterations done between the two mediums (for the early '90s), but was Sonic exempt from this? Were the Sega arcades as proficient as the console at the time (I'm asking because I never really got into arcades due to being introduced to the home console market so early)?

If this is covered somewhere in the wikis or elsewhere then I apologize for my ignorance (trash this if it is then).
  2. Sonic 2D Blast?

    04 November 2008 - 08:49 PM

I've always loved the music for Sonic 3D Blast (for Genesis and Saturn), but never really liked the game so much. I always wondered why no one tried to make a 2D conversion of it... I mean, you've got the music... the zones are split up into 2 acts, much like Sonic 2... the Special Stages aren't much different so they could be kept the same... the only problem I could see is perhaps the whole Flicky ordeal. Level editing is something that can be done, but I know the Flickies would present some programming problems... anyway, has anyone ever thought of doing this? It just seems like a hack idea that makes you smack your head and go, "D'oh!".
  3. [WANTED] Sprite Artist/Level Layout/Sound & Music

    16 September 2008 - 06:27 PM

Project: Sonic the Hedgehog HD (Huntington's Disease) -- Title possibly tentative.
Position sought: Sprite artists, level layout artists, sound and music artists
Description: A really sick joke hack involving Sonic the Hedgehog crippled by Huntington's disease and confined to a wheelchair. Changes include HUD and most text replaced with Braille, level layouts made wheelchair-accessible and music changes including a 16-bit version of the 'Chariots of Fire' theme.
Contact: Soselocke (PM or IRC) or Destructiox (PM or IRC)

Here's some examples of the Braille text changes made for the hack by Destructiox:

  4. [WANTED] Sprite artist/Layout artist

    27 August 2008 - 05:06 AM

Project needing help: Sonic the Hedgehog: Doomsday (SatAM-styled Sonic 2 hack) EXTREMELY CONCEPTUAL
Position sought: Sprite artist and layout artist.
Description: I've thrown the idea of a properly made SatAM Sonic hack for a while and I'd like to see if the concept could become a reality. Mostly, it'd just be new sprite art and level layouts to help give the feel and environment of the SatAM series.
Contact: PM me, or contact me via AIM instant messenger (goji87) or e-mail ([email protected]).

I'd also like to stress that I lack any sort of skills towards hacking and engineering. Overall, the only things I could do for a possible Sonic Doomsday project would be conception and moderation.
  5. [OFFERING] Help make my hack a reality?

Blah, sorry. Delete this thread. Didn't read the pinned topics... will re-submit my topic again later with proper guidelines. Sorry for this. >_<
