- Interests:
- Anime, including (but not limited to) Bleach (I like the story, characters and art probably more than most of the actual episodes), Ah! My Goddess (I'm a real sap for those sweet, romantic comedy animes), Naruto/Shipuuden (same concept applies here as for Bleach), Clannad (there'd have to be something wrong with you as a human being if you did not enjoy this anime), Special A. (I find myself growing to like it more and more, all the time; it's just so cute and funny and fun), Tokimeki Memorial ~Only Love~ (I'm sure you can see the pattern forming here), Vampire Knight (it was a consistently pretty awesome anime the whole first season through, and I feel the same way about the second), among others; manga (which I'm not a very big reader of), for there are some mangas out there I want to read because of the impossibility to follow the stories otherwise, namely Fruits Basket (the anime stops short of not even halfway to the end of the story, not to mention it leaves out a fact [or perhaps even changes it] about the head of the Zodiac) and Amazing Agent Luna (which doesn't even have an anime, at least not yet anyway, and is pretty decent as a manga); comic books (I'm currently reading through the Marvel Essentials for The Avengers, Daredevil, Amazing Spiderman, Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spiderman, Fantastic Four, Iron Man, X-men, Wolverine, and Marvel Team-Up); Marvel Super Heroes in general (and even the DC "Super" Hero Batman); retro games (including and especially Genesis/Mega Drive games, like X-men 1 & 2, Sonic games, the Mickey Mouse ones, other Disney ones [such as Quackshot and Aladdin,] Gunstar Heroes, among others); Sonic characters in general as well as the Sonic Universe (I can see where those are coming from who say adding a new character just about every game is dumb and getting really old, and I agree with them to an extent, but I do enjoy how there are tons of characters made to date and really like the interesting designs for some of them); Viewtiful Joe (the character, the games, even the OP song to the TV show, "Brighter Side"); Megaman (I used to not own any of the games, though I rented some in the past, but I recently bought Megaman X Collection for myself (yes, I bought it for myself =P) for my last birthday, and although they're a tad bit hard for my taste, I enjoy the gameplay style a good deal); J-Pop and J-Rock (watching animes has really broadened my musical appreciative horizons, or so to speak; I particularly like UVERworld, Flow, Lia, and Kelun); American Rock, American Soft Rock, some American Pop, Classical, contemporary Classical [e.g. Josh Groban], Easy Listening, Techno [the kind that sounds like music, not the kind that sounds like a 7 minute-long experiment composed of musical-esque sound effects], some Indie, some Jazz, that really dramatic, pretty and/or tense music that's made for movies or TV shows, video game music; all-natural ice cream (it's just the freshest, sweetest ice cream ever, including Ben & Jerry's, Talenti [gelato], and Häagen-Dazs); the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini (and I don't care that everyone says he rips off everyone else, for in any event he doesn't do much more than other writers -- I mean come on, how many "original" ideas can someone come up with? Hasn't any noticed that most stories use a bunch of recycled ideas and rearrange them to the writer's preference mixed in with the author's own personal touch of writing style and of choice of names for characters, locations, objects, languages, currencies, abilities, etc. In any event, I like Paolini's writing style, characters and story); and Sudoku (you gotta love it!) ...that's all I can think of right now...

In Topic: Would someone please recommend a few sonic fan games/hacks for me?

And let's not forget Jamie Bailey's Sonic: Time Attacked, an oldie but a goodie. If you haven't played that yet, I dare say give it a shot—you may like it. It's a tad bit creaky here and there, and some level design is questionable at parts, and the final boss is a bit on the overly tedious side, but it's fairly well polished overall and has a good length to it. Granted, it's not too much in the style of classic Genesis/Mega Drive Sonic games but it's pretty close. Yet for that reason alone you may be uninterested in it... All the same give it 15 minutes of your time before passing judgement ...Unless you've already played it, in which case I assume you have already passed judgement.
Project Mettrix is another older fan game, but also worth checking out. I don't think it ever got finished. I mean, the last time I downloaded a demo might have been 5-7 years ago, so if it has been finished since, then I guess I really wouldn't know, now would I?
But I never heard anyone say it got finished. Regardless, it's significantly more "classic" in style than Time Attacked is, and the developer(s?) took a pretty interesting approach to the gameplay in terms of level and character selection. It's a fairly interesting concept, so I recommend the game if you haven't played it yet. I assume its name is derived from both "metrics" and "matrix", though the only sense that I can find in naming it "Mettrix" with those two words in mind would be to convey that the game's main aspect is its being a work-in-progress experiment. Which kind of leaves me to believe it may not have been intended to remain as the title once the "project" was finished, but again, what would I know? /: We probably have a page article here on the site that I should have read before making this comment. Well too bad—even if we do, I'm too lazy to edit my post now! Whatever I have to say on the matter is probably far more awesomely put and much more profound anyway. You'll just have to make do with this feebly written pathetic excuse for a post and hope I never once again make the blunder of speaking up before having all the facts straight in my head. -

grap3fruitman, on 16 November 2012 - 01:51 AM, said:I avoided the last game and a lot of other Sega titles because I had been burned a lot recently by them. Does this look decent and is it worth it to pick up the last game at a budget price?
If you can get the first one at a good price (perhaps used), do so. I love it more than Mario Kart Wii even. That's not to say it's better in every way than MKW, or even that MKW isn't superior in any way to it, but I felt SSASR delivered more often on offering the gamer a satisfyingly fun, competitive racing experience. Plus: Mission Mode. Sure, a third or so of them will drive you insane if you're trying to complete them with a AAA Rank. But the other 30-40 missions are for the most part really fun!
Also: PS3/Xbox 360 graphics > Wii graphics. -

Not being able to beat Dr. Robotnik in HPZ in S[3]&K, no matter how many times you hit him, before he electrocutes Knuckles and flies off with the Master Emerald. I always wanted to prevent that to see if I could find some sort of secret ending or extra boss, or have Knuckles follow me about for the rest of the game, with him not being exhausted from being shocked since I would have prevented that.
In the same game, never being given a chance to confront Sonic in a cutscene or battle while playing as Knuckles.
Also, at the beginning of AIZ, while playing as Sonic, not being able to avoid getting all the chaos emeralds knocked out of me by Knuckles, even though I'm super fast and (supposedly) invulnerable. -

How about a special stage similar in style to the gameplay (camera angle inclusive) of Sonic 3D Blast/Flickies' Island? Perhaps it could be a little like the Special Stage in Sonic Robo Blast 2 as well as being a little like the one in Aquaslash's Sonia and Silver: The S Factor. No actual Flicky collecting though, or (ignoring that last remark) there could be a handful of Flickies, Pickies, Pockies, etc. scattered throughout the stage that can be collected to earn a continue for your character. (Though as to what they would be doing trapped in the Special Stage [I.e. as to how they got there], I have no idea.)
Or this could just be a Bonus Stage.
Alternatively, you could go a more SegaSonic Arcade level gameplay route for Special or Bonus Stages. Differently themed gauntlets to run through to get to the emerald in time and/or with enough rings. Though obviously whatever you do make sure the stages look phantasmagoric, littered with abstract shapes and various color themes. Obviously.
