I've got recently some doubts with buyin Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity. I liked Sonic Riders on PC, but in this case I'll need to buy PS2 version (I know, there is also Wii version, but I don't have Wii).

So, if I liked first Sonic Riders, will I enjoy its sequel? I've read opinions that it's generally worser than the first one, but is there someone who played in both games and could tell, if it's really so noticeably worser (and why)?

I'm a bit worried with this PS2 version, because basing on my bad experience with Shadow the Hedgehog on PS2 and reading a lot of opinions about bad quality of Sonic Heroes port on PS2, I'm a bit afraid that this title will also suffer for the Curse of Blue Hedgehog on Sony's Famous Console ™.

I wish they could release all Sonic games from this period on PC, but well, that'll never happen.

(of course many thanks for all suggestions!)

    1. The 32X doesn't have a strict region lock, but it does have a frequency lock. A 32x that's been modded to switch between 50 and 60 Hz will run on any console -- otherwise you're stuck using it with a console with the same frequency. Any region lock baked into the cartridges is checked at the console level.
    2. It's not as cheap as I seem to recall it being when I bought mine (which was around 7 years ago), though you can find American units still going in the $30-50 range which isn't too ridiculous. Boxed models are higher price but you shouldn't care about that.

    3. No, unfortunately most 32X games are region locked (Chaotix is, oddly enough, a bit like the 32X itself, as the Japanese and US versions are the same cartridge, just with a check on the region of the console itself, while the European version is distinct), and there isn't a passthrough adapter that retains 32X compatibility. As much as I dislike advising the piracy route, you'd probably be a bit better served by getting some sort of flash cartridge. They're all more expensive than a copy of Chaotix (even complete copies) but aren't that much more, and are far more versatile.

It's been a while, but thanks for answer! I've made research for a some time and came into conclusion... That buying NTSC 32X (with cable and AC adapter) AND Knuckles Chaotix cartridge (NTSC too) will be cheaper than buying only PAL Knuckles Chaotix. It's... well, it's showing excactly, that it's only option to go. I'm wondering about buying these + the "main unit" of Sega Genesis... Because it'll be probably still cheaper than buying ONLY the PAL cartridge with Knuckles Chaotix. Yeah, it's THAT expensive.

On the other hand - I'm wondering if I'm not passing some boarder with spending so much money on one cartridge and one add-on. Not to mention that my family would kill me with a laugh (not that I'm too concerned with it) or worse, if they only knew, that I'm even considering such thing :P Oh, I hate dilemmas :(

Anyway, muteKi, in case of Everdrives (because you've mentioned about it), I'm quite curious about differences between them. They're generally quite expensive, but I've noticed, that there are really big differences in case of prices. For example, Everdrive on Stone Age Gamer (compatible with 32X too) is costing about 92$. While the everdrives on AliExpress have prices from 49.99$. Yeah, I know that the sources are completely different and not too comparable - but generally, what are the differences (despite cart shell of course :P) between them?

Yeah, I must admit, that I was also wondering, why there were so big gap between 2004 (Sonic Heroes*) and 2011 - Sonic Generations, and in next years Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic the Hedgehog 4 etc... And again a big gap, because since 2012 (not counting Sega & All-Stars Racing Transformed), there is no new Sonic titles on PC.

But I'm most curious about the decision of Sega to go "into" PC in second half of 90' (because that's quite unusual in comparison to other japanese developers, especially since Sega still had then their console(s), and why after three years they've relased Sonic CD and Sonic 3 & Knuckles on PC? And why these titles, without predecessors?), "intensing" it in Saturn's era and after that slowly "withdraw". Not to mention, that during developing the Sonic XTreme PC was (near Saturn of course) one of the "main" platforms considered as the "home" of this never made game. I see there quite big inconsistency.

*Yes, I'm aware that in the meanwhile there was port of Sonic Riders (2006) and Sonic Mega Collection+.

"ignorecd" (bypasses CD check, so much for copy-protection :P),

That's a bit strange, I have Sonic Heroes PC version and it doesn't require CD after installing it (I have version sold in Portugal, on 2 CD - don't know if it matters).

(Sorry RibShark, but I don't know an answer for your question)

Anyway, I've recently "studied" the releases of various Sonic games on PC and found some, let's say "inconsistency". First of all - I've noticed, that there were very little difference between release of Sonic R on Saturn on on PC, there were also some difference in release date of Saturn and PC version, but not too big. However, in case of both Sonic Adventure games this difference was quite big (especially in case of Sonic Adventure 2). And why generally Sega decided to make port of games with their mascot on PC in second half of 90' (when they still had their own "platforms"), but later was quite "restrained" in this case? I know the attitude of many Japan Developers toward PC, and Sega seems to have a bit different approach, but only in second half of 90'.

Sorry for little offtop, but I'm quite curious about this thing for some time. In various media these two names you've mentioned (Angel Island & Floating Island) are used. As far as I know, for the first time (in Sonic 3 Manual?) it was called Angel Island. So, what was the reason to make this "alternative" name for this island? What was wrong with the "primal" name?

(To be honest - personally, I prefer Angel Island. Floating Island sounds so terribly trivial - yeah, it's island which is floating in the air, let's call it Floating Island :P It's like Sonic wouldn't have name "Sonic", but "Blue" instead. Blue the Hedgehog :P)
