So after this week, each weekday a new Sonic Boom episode will air at noon for two weeks in the US.

    RIP Spazz.

I just noticed. The episodes will be airing on weekdays for the next two weeks (that's 10 episodes) but after that it's back to Saturday mornings starting with August 1st (according to Wikipedia). If from that point on the new episodes will premiere on every Saturday morning (and there's 16 of them left), then all 52 episodes should air by October 31st. And if the second season is still happening, it's very possible it will premiere in November, just like the first one did.

Since Sonic 3 Eggman never used his most effective weapon against rodents: carnival night barrel.
Are we supposed to believe he has amnesia or something, I demand an explanation!

I think Eggman suffers from a Wile E. Coyote syndrome. He's a genius and sure likes to claim himself as one, but he's not very well aware of his current surroundings.

Is that legit enough for ya? :specialed:

I think it's largely hype backlash. There's been WAY too many times it's been hyped as the superior rendition of Sonic and it fan base has a few too many trolls who talk derogatory about the games and anything else because of it (they are a vocal minority however, trust me), leading many to get sick of it and punctuate it's flaws, even if some may only mean it in a 'it's good but not THAT good' way. If it wasn't for this it likely would be treated the same as the other cartoons; ie. viewed as flawed, but having it's fair praise.

Oh yes, one certain individual with a Japanese-sounding name (funnily enough) comes to mind. Trolled everywhere & banned everywhere due to her insistence that SatAM was the real Sonic canon (never taking no for an answer when you told her that there's no official "canon" at all). Sonic the Comic was "non-canon" because there wasn't a cartoon made from it, AoStH was "non-canon" because there wasn't a comic made from it, The games were "non-canon" because it didn't have SatAM characters in it. You named it, she shat all over it. Also had multple accounts to back her up!

Totally agree though, SatAM was waaaaay overhyped before it got a DVD release. I think the phrase "the memory cheats" comes to mind and once the nostalgia glasses were taken off, people realised that it just wasn't as good as all those "Freedom Fighters" fanpages and Sonic HQ made it out to be. I've always said you could replace Sonic with Zippo The Cheetah" and Robotnik with "Professor Horrible" and you'd have the exact same show.

I dunno, I marathoned the series recently and while there's definitely a cheese factor and it's so far removed from the video games that I would never consider it the definitive Sonic canon, I thought it held up pretty well. Definitely in the top tier of cartoons from its era. And when you consider how atrocious every other video game cartoon from DiC was (the Mario cartoons, Zelda, Captain N, even AoSTH) it's even more impressive that it's even any good.

I agree that SatAM is a great show and still holds up thanks to its writing, but I also can't help but find it insulting how you call AoStH atrocious. Sure, it's no Shakespeare but at least it can be fun, have heart-warming moments and a lot of references and nods to the games. Not to mention, it's heavily inspired by Looney Tunes, Felix the Cat and the Fleischer cartoons, which explains its unique style and wacky nature. For me both shows are equally good and fun to watch and I really wish people would stop hating one show in favor of another, unless the said show has a good reason to be bad, like Underground, X and even Christmas Blast (and trust me, those have their reason to be considered bad).

For me Sonic-16 encapsulated the side of Sonic I hated at the time - cheesy action hero television moody teenager western bullshit. Like Gene said, a money spinner for sure, like Boom.

The Japanese had a much better handle over Sonic, and still do imo.

Though I wouldn't mind seeing a fan recreation just for fun.

EDIT: does anyone know if the demo was actually running on a Mega Drive?

I think it was shown running on Amiga or something.

Interesting to see how this artwork also seems to imitate Uekawa's style.

    Perhaps he's mocking it?

Yeah, to me that screams 'parody'. It's the same pose and shading style and everything. And it's even kind of an outlier in the aesthetic of the other artwork.

Anyone thinking this is mocking the Sonic Adventure style should go through Ohshima's Facebook gallery. Maybe then we can finish this claim that Uekawa is to blame for the Adventure art style when it's very clearly Ohshima's.

    THIS is Uekawa drawing.

This is Uekawa drawing Sonic. Notice the stiff posing. Notice the use of straight lines in things like the hands. Lots of guidelines to make a figure that loses some energy but is flawlessly sculpted in tridimentional space.

Comparatively, we can say he draws like a Japanese animator. In fact, remember- he was involved with Sonic X.

There's almost a repulsion to using straight lines. Poses don't make sense and that doesn't matter so long as kind of a circular motion is achieved. Metallic painting. Angry looks and tons of fangs (which, incidentally, is one reason I don't buy the current "there never were fangs in Sonic and Kalinske's a liar" theory).

Comparatively, we can say he's a grafitter.

This is not Ohshima mocking Sonic Adventure. Ohshima IS Sonic Adventure. It's no coincidence starting with Adventure 2 the artwork in Sonic started looking more "controlled".

Oshima draws some pretty surreal poses. You guys think he's ever seen AoStH? I really wonder what his thoughts would be on that series. Given his style, he'd probably like it.
