  3. RIP Greg Martin

    03 January 2014 - 11:46 PM

It is with a heavy heart that I bring you this news. Today a close friend of mine informed me that Greg Martin, Sonic the Hedgehog American box art illustrator has passed away. If you have followed my posts then you have already seen some of his seemingly unlimited work. I understand that not everyone here is a fan of the direction he took the character but no matter your thoughts on the artistic direction he applied to Sonic his influence can not be denied. Above all else I want everyone here to know that Greg was a kind and a generous man with a wonderful personality. The world is a poorer place without him.

You can view some of his other works here.

This is my 20th post so I do not know if I will be allowed to stay and follow up to this post. Should this be my last post here and you wish me to respond you can respond to the link below. My friend Dan knew Greg better than I did and he had this to say about Greg on Nintendoage.

  4. Sega Visions #1 cover layouts - NO SONIC ??

    08 May 2013 - 12:00 AM

Underneath several layers of sketchpaper notes and acetate we find the original artwork for Sega Visions #1 and Sonic is nowhere to be found. How can this be? The premier issue of Sega's publication is lacking its flagship character !

I checked under each layer of these designs just to be sure. NO SONIC ANYWHERE !

Also, I wanted to show something else to you guys. My mum found it in her house the other day. It's a birthday card I received when I was a kid:

(Oh look, a beta screenshot =P)

I've never seen any pictures of this anywhere online, so I thought you might like to see it :) I seem to remember that I received another Sonic card at some point when I was a kid, with him riding a snowboard, but I can't find it. I've got my mum on the case as well because she might still have it somewhere, and I really want to see it again because I can't think what artwork it used...

This same image can be found on a rare and expensive promotional Sonic #1 comic which predates the current Archie series.

A few years back I purchased a lot of 20-40 Sonic illustrations which included the one used on your birthday card. Sorry for the bad pics I've never taken the time to redo them.
