Topics I've Started

  1. Identifying Unknown Encryption

    16 December 2012 - 01:06 AM

    I have 3 files.

A zip, a supposed fix'd zip of the previous file, and a rar.

All three are unopenable and have no header data.

All three were obtained from Japanese file sharing sites.

All three are supposed to contain the same contents.

The contents should be approximately 20 image files, format unknown.

What would be the best way about going about trying to decrypt these files?
  2. Non-Sonic-Generations CPK Files

    26 November 2011 - 10:54 PM

For anyone familiar with the CPK files in Sonic Generations, they should also be familiar with the repacker.

However, for some games, such as Project Diva 2 and Project Diva Extend, the resulting CPK file is rebuilt incorrectly, or is rebuilt into a CPK which has an incompatible format.

The format is somewhat documented in the source code of these deprecated programs here: http://hcs64.com/files/utf_tab07b3.zip

Most notable of this different CPK container format is that the table of contents is written before the actual data, instead of at the end of the file.

I'm kind of poking in the dark in converting the format because it's been a hell of a long time since I last did anything like this. Anyone care to take a look at this with me?

A sample Project Diva 2 CPK file is located here and another here

TOC always seems to begin at offset 2042. Files seem to buffer to the nearest 0x000 or 0x800. This may be due to some kind of streamlined data reading from the PSP, I'm not really sure how the data buffers work.
  3. N64 USF and other formats?

    21 November 2009 - 02:37 AM

Greetings Retro, long time no see.

I'd like to bring up something that has plagued me for a long time. N64 USF files. While I understand the format, and that you look for the routine where sound loads, use savestates and all that jazz, I was wondering if the same process could be used for other sounds in the game, such as voices and sound effects. The problem is, I'm not familiar enough with the N64 and it's RAM editing process.

Any have any theories, documents, or opinions on how to approach this? Or is this even possible?
  4. Street Fighter 4 PC Benchmark... haxing

    19 June 2009 - 01:09 AM

Edit: Giving credit where it's due, I'm not the first to discover this. However, I am not stealing credit or copying this person's find. I did all this on my own, and it's just a coincidence we both decided to delve into what we could.

I decided to download the Street Fighter 4 PC benchmark, and once installed I realized it's the entire game. Really, it is. In fact, it contains a HELL OF A LOT of unused audio samples. The most prominant of which are "Thunderhawk, WINS!" and "Dee Jay, WINS!". Raw ADX files extracted can be found here. Is this audio directly ported from the console versions? Is this something Capcom is preparing to release for the PC version? Discuss.

EDIT: Alright, so it looks like the benchmark uses the EXACT same formats as the Xbox 360. Meaning these are AAX files, not ADX files. They have been correctly extracted here. 427 is Thunderhawk, 432 is Dee Jay. I'm downloading the Xbox 360 version to investigate it further, and possibly replace files in the benchmark to make it a fully playable game.

    Hex editing the EXE:

  5. Japanese Sonic the Fighters OST insert

    02 April 2009 - 10:15 AM

Some of you here at Retro might not know, but I'm pretty dedicated when it comes to Sonic the Fighters. I've done as much work as I can to blow the rom wide open, and I've got a very good grasp on how it's engine works, and have created a few hacks at the rom level for it. Now in my never ending quest for more StF knowledge, I present scans I've made (quite some time ago) of the Sonic the Fighters CD booklet.

Pages 1 and 2, and then page 3.

I've had these scanned for I don't know how long... but I've wanted them translated for the longest time. These are three pages in Japanese in the the little CD-Booklet insert for the Sonic the Fighters OST. I have no idea what they say, but page 2 looks like it describes some of the songs or something. Could anyone take a whack at translating these? (Tsukiyo-chan? ;w;)

    EDIT: Fixed links.
