  1. Who would YOU get to do the music for Sonic 4?

    09 February 2010 - 12:13 AM

So, people have repeatedly said that, among other things, the Sonic 4 jingle is trash. We don't know who did it, but if the various comments people have made are true, then they're either trolling us, working at a low standard, or just not that good. So, I figured "Why not make a thread where we can all think of random composers we like?" and wrote this up.

Personally, I can think of three people at the moment.

First off, Yuzo Koshiro. It seems he's mostly known for composing the music for Streets of Rage series, and I suppose at least a few people here would know he did the rearrangements and other tracks for the Game Gear/Sega Master System version of Sonic 1, and probably Revenge of Shinobi, too. So, yeah.

Secondly, Manabu Namiki. He did the music for a heap of shooting games... and most recently, the ReBirth series of games (Along with Fantasy Zone II DX). So, yeah!

Finally, because I know everyone else is going to say it, Naofumi Hataya. No explanation should be needed.

So... yeah! If you were in control, who would you get?
  2. roxahris' amazing topic of free music

    28 March 2009 - 01:32 AM

So, have you ever wanted new music in your hack... but didn't know how to get it in? Didn't know who to ask to do it for you? Can't use xm4smps? Don't know what a tracker is? Horrified at the mere thought of messing with MIDIs? Well, you've come to a great place! For the time being, I'll do music requests for anybody who asks! That's right! I'll convert, or even port music for you, if you ask.
Note, however, that some songs cannot be converted - either they are too complex, or there are no MIDIs for them. Or I simply hate the song. But ask anyway!
You may wonder; how do you know these songs will be decent and not the half-assed garbage that's made in five minutes full of timing issues and ear-grating voices! Well, because I'm known as pretty good. And since then, I've improved. I'll just show some examples of what I've done here.And... yeah. I don't have much else to say. Or do. I'm always really bored, which is why I'm making this thread!
Songs that have been done/requested/held aside:
  3. New feature

    03 November 2008 - 06:43 AM

There's a new feature, and I have no idea what it does. So, this can be the official panic thread!
  4. [Wanted/Offering] Teach me ASM and get free music!

    27 May 2008 - 03:56 AM

So, I want to do some ASM stuff for my hack. I know a little ASM... but not enough to do what I want. Basically, what I want are lessons in ASM and help and stuff... I'm offering music, and I'll give it to you in advance. Here are a few examples of my music, but most are a bit incomplete:And more to come. If you want to do this, please post a reply and send me a PM with the song you want, and maybe a MIDI or XM of it if possible.
  5. Sonic the Sequel the Thread the Movie (not really)! Also, I need h

    18 April 2008 - 05:06 AM

So, for the past few months or so, I've been working on a hack. A generic one. As you have probably guessed, it's name is Sonic the Sequel. I've released betas (OMG TEH BEEEETAAAAS) on the IRC channel, and stuff. I've decided to make a topic about it, mainly because I need help with a few things... oh, and I've wanted to reveal it sometime soon anyway. I havent edited layouts or anything 'important' yet, though...
First things first, zones! You don't want to see the title screen... (And you don't want to know why.) Also, excuse the filter...
    EDIT: Images removed! :o

Green Grasslands! I like this palette. It's... nice. I'm thinking of editing the art, but that'll come later.

Ravaged Ruins! It's brown and gold! And blue, too... and it was 3am when I made the title cards, shut up.

Crystal Catacombs! I've edited this act's layout, now I just need to fix up the object placement.
*long pause involving the annoying of others*

Pinball Party! Palette isn't final, I might switch back to the one I had before... (which had gold instead of silver)

Starry Speedway! Apart from the generic name (fuck you too, subconscious), I like the way this zone looks.

Frightening Fortress... it sure is dark out here. Dark, and that other thing...

Inside, however, it's considerably brighter. And a lot more shiny!

Chaos Core! The final level! Hopefully, I'll be able to put in a surprise or two...

The level select, with free RetroWiki-style gray! I haven't changed the logo yet. Not one bit. Nope...

    Anyway, features include:
Sonic 2 style Spindash (But I was lazy, so it doesn't have any smoke... yet.)
No speed limiter (Zooooooooom! Also, boing... kinda.)
New palettes and graphics (As you can see... sorta.)
Revision 01 backgrounds (Parallax scrolling! Oh no, my 68000 is on fire D:)
Changed music (Currently, most of it is ported... but I plan on replacing most songs with other music.)
An extra character (It exists! Nothing is changed, though.)
Some other random stuff (But what exactly? We may never know!)

*insert credit where credit is due here*

Anyway, I've been experiencing some problems...
I ported over the Sonic sprites from Sonic 2 (How innovative!) into my hack. I changed the animations so that they used the right frames, ncluding the extra walking sprite (which is possibly the cause of the problem). However, whenever Sonic walks on a slope, he uses weird animations, and the game usually crashes... really badly. Example:

Pressing the C button a few times...

    AAAAAAAAH WHAT THE FUCK D:
Anyway, the next thing. I've changed 'SCORE' to 'Points', but at the results screen...

Hey, what's that S doing all the way over there? (Ignore the BONU text) I want to add a S onto Ring, but I don't know how...
Also, I keep seeing numbers on Sonic... like this:

"Numbers! Under my foot!" ...and now he's dead.

They're probably from when enemies explode... but why do they appear?
Also, my special stage is fucked up. Specifically, the backgrounds...

    WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED HERE
Anyway, once I fix these problems and do a few other things, it'll be ready for a public (not including the ones I linked to on the IRC channel) demo/beta release! So, can anyone help?
