  1. Earthworm Jim CD Sample Replacement

    31 July 2014 - 01:46 AM

So I'm sure everyone knows Earthworm Jim and how awesome of a game it was. When the MegaCD was released, Shiny decided to make a version of the game with slightly enhanced animations, delicious CDDA music, and some extra parts to levels (or an extra level altogether). This was also released on the PC with a slightly better color palette, and higher quality samples when compared to the MegaCD version. I have no idea why, but the samples in EWJ:SE for the MCD sound like complete garbage; the voices and a handful of sound effects sound like they were recorded straight from the MegaDrive original and compressed even more (including some PSG white-noise explosions), even though the MCD is capable of outputting PCM audio at a decent rate. Meanwhile the Windows version was blessed with much higher-quality voice clips and select sound effects. I'm completely inexperienced when it comes to ROM hacking so I'm not entirely sure of what's possible and what's not, but would something as conceptually simple as replacing audio samples from the MCD original with the Windows version be feasible? I feel like the MCD version could've been a slightly more enhanced version had the samples been taken care of differently.
  2. Sonic CD Beta UFOs

We all know that there were many things changed from the early protos of Sonic CD to the later protos. One thing that I'm bringing to attention is the UFOs still being in the final game.
About....3-4 years ago I was dicking around, playing Sonic CD (emulated). I ran out of time, so I loaded up a savestate I saved during the middle of the stage or whenever. I don't remember exactly what I did but I remember seeing the beta UFO's flying around for a second. I screencapped that IMMEDIATELY. Unfortunately I had no idea what the Sonic 2 beta forums were at the time, so I didn't do much about it.
Computer crashed, had to get it fixed, and everything was wiped off the hard drive. So much for that.
Last year, I tried replicating that event, but....it gave me shit. I've been trying so hard to find this because this may lead to more discoveries to be found in the final.

TL;DR: I saw the beta UFOs in the final and can't find them again.

Has this happened to anyone else?
  3. Hey Just a General Question

    11 June 2007 - 06:10 AM

Well, I don't think it's that general, but is it possible to extract the maps from Sonic Cd and put them in... I dunno, Sonic 1? But wait, I forgot, limited color palette. Damn. Meh... if it IS possible, I wanna know. It's the summer time, I got nothing to do after the 27th, hell I want a great project to work on.
