  1. My Hacking Sampler Thing

    02 October 2009 - 01:55 AM

I've been working on toying with some ideas on and off for the last 6 months or so. I've decided to post what I have got done because I'm not sure if I'll ever turn this into a full game.

The level select is on by default, and the levels of interest are CPZ 1 and 2, MCZ 1, and MTZ 1/2/3, as well as CNZ 1.

    * Theres a few new monitor powerups, including a water level monitor that adjusts the water level and also can wrap/unwrap the level depending on the specific monitor.
    * Theres a chaos emerald monitor that gives you an emerald and ends the level (with a Secret Exit).
    * The teleport monitors will actually transport you to different locations (sometimes even to a place in another zone)
    * The blank monitor performs a zone-specific function (in CPZ it will make the timer count down slower).

    Also

    * The timer counts down instead of up, and depending on the level, it may count down faster or slower. Special power ups can change this.
    * Star posts are now non-linear: A solid red starpost has not been touched yet, a flashing starpost is the active point of return, and a solid yellow starpost has been touched but is not the active point of return (you can touch it to make it the active one). There is a sample of 3 starposts near each other in CNZ1 so you can see how this works.
    * Hitting Start + C will transport you to the last starpost you hit.
    * The palette in MTZ is synced to the music. The shield will sober you up.

CPZ is a fully created level. The first act has a normal and a secret exit, and the second act has 2 secret exists and a normal exit.

    Here are some screenshots:

A secret area in CPZ act 2 that's really located in CPZ act 1, with a teleporter back to CPZ act 2

Water level/Level size change power up -- in this case it's positioned so you have to hit it to continue.

Also, there are secrets galore. Feel free to look around, the debug code is the same. Please let me know if you find any issues or have any questions.

  2. Where did you learn about the cheat codes for the first time?

    03 January 2009 - 02:36 PM

Where did you guys learn about the cheat codes for the first time. Obviously Sonic came out before the internet, so did you hear about it from your friends, or did you just accidentally discover them?

My story is that my friend from school told me about the level select and all emeralds in sonic 2. I found Sonic 1 level select by myself, and I accidentally ran into debug on sonic 1 by playing with the level select.

After I realized how debug worked in sonic 1, I wrote a letter to Sega of america asking about all the cheat codes. They sent me all the codes for sonic 1 and sonic 2. When sonic 3, came out, I learned the level select code from a gaming magazine, and the debug was obvious. When sonic and knuckles came out, I had the internet and looked it up there.

Incidentally, before I had got the internet, I had forgotten the sonic 2 debug code and had tried every possible combination I could think of before I wound up writing to sega again and getting the code again. Heh.
  3. Does anyone have the small sonic fonts in truetype?

    20 January 2007 - 11:50 PM

I'm looking for the small italic (sonic 1/2 debug, sonic 1 level select) and the larger (sonic 2 level select) fonts in truetype format. Does anyone have them, know of where I can get them, and/or willing to make them? I would, but I don't have a font creator.
