Where did you get the cartridges? If they're second-hand, it's not impossible that someone could have switched the backs of the cartridges with Acclaim games.
lol, I guess I am hairy.... I bought them off a seller at an outside antique market. All the acclaim ones had the black tape. ... I've used my games quite a bit but never heard of this though.... never had to switch out the backs??
I am waiting on some security bit tools so that I can open everything soon...
I have some of these too (including an identical Sonic 3), but I'm dead certain that there is nothing special about them. I'm pretty sure they were just manufactured extremely late in the Genesis's lifespan, after Sega dropped most everything else to focus on the Saturn and turned over the distribution of Genesis stuff to Majesco. I'm guessing they were licensed to keep rereleasing certain games, but used whatever parts they could get their hands on (in this case, Acclaim cases) and just put the sticker over the logo to hide that fact. -

Just had a quick look as well, definitely nothing in GoodGen 3.0.
And while we are on the topic of Puggsy, have a look at this cute little Demo, an early Amiga program with Puggsy:
Anyone else notice that the music on the second "video" in this is from Lemmings? I find that strange since I just read about how Psygnosis bought Puggsy's rights off Dionysus, who, to my knowledge don't have anything to do with lemmings, unlike Psygnosis as we know. Anyone got an explanation for that?
Also just been playing Puggsy. It's definitely easier now that I'm older, but it's still 10% fun, 90% FUUUUUU.
1) It's probably a common tune, Lemmings uses a lot of really old public domain tunes
2) It could have been a ripped MOD file just used to add music to the demo. MOD files were really common to get on the Amiga.
Tim Wright composed the music for Puggs in Space. He also composed/arranged the music for Lemmings, so he probably just decided to reuse it.
edit: Somehow I missed the post above me that already answered this yesterday. I feel stupid now. -

In Topic: Java-Based In-Browser Emulator

Jaseman, on 25 January 2012 - 05:45 PM, said:What's the point of a browser based emulator, if I may have the audacity to ask? I used to use them, then I realized you can just download a rompack and be on with it.
I used to use one of the Java-based NES emulators in high school. I had an English class in this remodeled room with PCs inside the desks that you could pop up. Well, the kicker was that they ran Linux at the time, and a heavily locked down version at that-- to the point that the KDE desktop didn't even have a K menu, and you could only run icons on the desktop (I somehow managed to get down to terminal level at one point, but still couldn't run anything-- they definitely did their homework). Anyway, the teacher for this class went on maternity leave and the substitute they found didn't really do anything with us all year, so I spent a lot of time messing with the computer at my desk to see if I could get some games running. My final solution was to make a web page on my flash drive that would call up the Java emulator. And it worked! I passed around a version with a selection page for around 50 games to everyone in the class, and we had a great year. -

Plus it might invoke Sega's legal wrath. Look what happened to the Streets of Rage Remake that used levels pulled from the official games.
