  1. Genocide City Zone - why no accuracy?

    12 August 2013 - 08:25 PM

    Here's a gripe/question I've always had....

    Now that we know what Genocide City was going to entail, has ANY hack actually bothered to do it? Every Genocide City I've seen, even in more modern hacks, was *way* off - I haven't seen a single one that used the Metropolis Zone 3 layout and The Machine music.

    I mean, imagine a combination of those two with the Cyber City graphics from "Sonic 2 Lost Worlds" - that would be incredible.
  2. Sonic 2 - my dream hack...

    31 July 2011 - 11:25 PM

    First things first... I have no hacking experience. I need to say that above everything else.

    That said, I'm wondering what the easiest way would be (if this is even possible) to pull this off. In a nutshell, I want to make the absolute complete "director's cut" of Sonic 2, compiled from levels from other hacks. Basically, I want to take Sonic 2 and make the following changes:

    * Add Wood Zone from "Sonic 2 Delta."
    * Add Dust Hill Zone from "Sonic 2 Delta."
    * Add Winter Zone from "The Lost Worlds."
    * Add Rock Zone from "The Lost Worlds."
    * Add Hidden Palace Zone from "Sonic 2 Delta."
    * Add Cyber City Zone from "The Lost Worlds."
    * Replace Casino Night Zone with a beta-tized version, maybe from "The Lost Worlds."
    * Rename the levels to their beta titles.

    Can this be done??
  3. Outrunning the whale... or not?

    06 February 2011 - 03:46 AM

    So, it seems that Sega tried to block anyone from getting Amy into Emerald Coast in the XBLA "Adventure" by making the 'place Burger Man on the left edge of the gate' glitch impossible - they put pointless invisible walls overhead so that this can't be done. However, as I learned this evening, you can still use him to push you through the *right* edge of the gate. 9 out of 10 times you'll fall to your death, but one time, Amy popped up over the little wall, and triggered Emerald Coast.

    Now for the question.... has anyone actually outrun the whale on XBLA? It seems impossible.

    The solution I've read online (and watched on YouTube) for previous versions was to jump and stop on the straightaway before the ramp, hammer jump around the corner, and continue on without the whale's interruption. I tried this many times this evening, and it seems as if Sega rigged this version of the game to reload the whale as soon as you turn the corner no matter what you previously did, so that Amy absolutely cannot make it to the next chunk of dock.

    Anyone care to prove me wrong? (Not to sound like a smartass or anything... I'm genuinely curious if you can progress further.)

    And just to clarify - I have confirmed that all of these glitches are intact in the XBLA version:
    * Tails in the sewer (both Sonic and Big areas)
    * Tails in Emerald Coast
    * Tails in Twinkle Park (unplayable, because you're out in space)
    * Knuckles in the sewer (both Sonic and Big areas)
    * Knuckles in Emerald Coast (complete with the 'spring of death' in part 2)
    * Knuckles in trial mode Windy Valley
    * Knuckles in Twinkle Park
    * Knuckles in trial mode Final Egg
    * Amy in Emerald Coast

    Likewise, ones that were fixed for the GameCube version (like getting Amy and E-102 in Casinopolis) remain impossible. Also, because of Sega adding an extra load point, Tails can no longer enter 'Goin' Down'. Damn.
  4. In-game continuity errors?

    14 January 2011 - 06:29 PM

    I just realized a major continuity error in Sonic Adventure DX (the XBox version) that I'm sure has been found before... the train station interior changes completely between the Station Square-side mockup and the actual loaded station. The floor changes from green to brown, and the pillars go from red brick to grey stone.

    Any other blatant continuity errors you've noticed within a Sonic game?
  5. Confused about a SA glitch...

    29 December 2010 - 12:41 AM

    I'm confused about something on Sonic Adventure's "Game Secrets" page. (On the Sonic Retro wiki, of course.)

    They mention the unused tunnel in Casinopolis, but seem to claim that Tails can fly through the ceiling of the first area and land in the tunnel. I've tried this a number of times (in the XBox Arcade version), but can't get through. Any help here?
