  1. Alien Isolation looks like Sega's best chance at a AAA hit in year

    30 June 2014 - 10:04 PM

Anyone else notice how much big buzz this game has gotten? Sega hasn't really been a player in the AAA space since they left the console business, honestly. Even better is that this game is actually being developed by Sega, and not just published by them. I haven't seen this many people openly excited about a Sega title in years.

    Anyone else feel this way?
  2. windows audio gets quiet when I connect bluetooth devices

    30 June 2014 - 06:27 PM

So I've been noticing this for a while, but it's finally gotten bad enough for me to start looking for ways to fix it. I notice that when I turn on or pair a bluetooth device in windows 8, whatever audio is currently playing gets its volume turned way down until the audio is stopped and the device begins playing again. It's not being turned down via the volume mixer - it remains the same - it simply gets quieter. I noticed this in the oldbie lounge - I had clicked on a topic and the music was playing, when I grabbed my bluetooth keyboard to type a reply. As soon as I turned on the keyboard, the music became very quiet.

Again, looking at the audio mixer, nothing has changed - everything is still turned up the way I like it. If I exit the oldbie lounge and re-enter (thus stopping and restarting the audio) it returns to its previous volume. I've noticed this happens in XBMC as well. No way to turn the audio back up on the currently playing video, but if I skip to a different video it returns to the original volume. I did this the other day by turning on a wiimote (which is set to pair with the PC). As soon as I turned on the wiimote, the audio got quiet.

Tried googling for this, nothing. I've never seen this issue before. Any ideas how to fix it? Windows 8.1 btw.
  3. If shenmue III were made, I wonder how many would be pissed

    27 June 2014 - 12:34 PM

I know a lot of people are really dying for more shenmue, but I wonder how many people have followed the series and what has been unearthed since Shenmue II close enough to realize, for example, that the next shenmue was likely going to introduce a number of fantasy elements, like fireballs and flight. Or that the revenge plot against Lan Di was eventually going to be dropped to give way to a larger story.

The first two shenmues are essentially a long prologue to what was supposed to be a high fantasy series. Assuming a Shenmue III ever comes that sticks to the same planned plot, how many people would be pissed?
  4. Why would my DSL sync on one modem and not another?

    23 June 2014 - 04:35 PM

Long story short: Lots of people in our office. AT&T provided us an nvg510 modem/router. This router blows, it constantly drops a signal. Lots of people online with the same symptoms. Common suggestion: Upgrade to a netgear n300 modem/router instead.

So I buy the modem/router, and damned if my DSL line will sync to it. I unplug it from the nvg510, the n300 claims there is no DSL signal, that the DSL line sync has failed. Take the wire, plug it back in to the nvg510, suddenly internet kicks back on (until the router shits itself again). Keep going back and forth, my DSL line just won't sync on the n300. I've tried removing my filter, I've tried entering my PPoE info several times, just nothing.

Googling around, getting nothing. I'm really frustrated. Someone please help??

Some real shitty games in this picture. Some good ones too, of course, but man some of these suck.
