  1. In Topic: Yakuza 5 localisation confirmed

I'm 100% digital, if you live in an area with decent internet then there's no reason not to go digital these days. My 1TB HDD is nearly full on my PS3, I have almost 200 games on it. It's so liberating for me because I have very limited shelf space for games and I have a two year old kid who constantly wants to fuck around with my shit, but the biggest reason is because I always traded in all my games after I was done with them, and I'd always come to regret it later on when I'd want to replay a game. I've bought No More Heroes at least 3 times. So Yakuza 5 bein digital only doesn't bother me at all. Though I wish Yakuza 3 was available on PSN, there's really no reason why they shouldn'tve put it up with 4 and Dead Souls. It probably would've been better PR for 5 than Dead Souls.

Yeah I doubt this'll be the end of console SEGA games, I think as far as Sonic is concerned we might be seeing more partnerships with Nintendo or Sony. As bad as the last few games have been, Sonic is still a major player, so I think Nintendo would probably wanna see more of Sonic on the Wii U just for the sake of more games or Sony might step in and help keep the unannounced new-gen game alive like they did with Street Fighter V and Grim Fandango.

yo stealth I just wanna throw this out there and say that the tone you're using, specifically towards LordOfSquad, comes off as condescending, pretentious, and completely unnecessary. I understand you have more knowledge than these guys do about "the biz" and it can be annoying when you see normies talking about stuff they don't know about, and thank you for shedding light on the logistics behind getting this shit made, but you really don't have to be a jerk. Taxman has taken the best route possible and says very little about this stuff to avoid sounding like anything other than a professional, which he's done well. Every time he speaks, people listen, and every response to a question he gives makes the asker feel important for asking the question, where as it seems like you're saying "don't fucking talk to me if you don't know what the fuck you're saying" when people are just asking questions so they CAN know.

Rather than quote your entire response to LordOfSquad, I highlighted a few key parts.

Assumedly an official version would be running on the Retro Engine (if not pardon my ignorance)
In a way, it makes perfect sense that you'd say that. In another, I can't help but find it ridiculous and insulting that you didn't even speculate that it might use HCGE, which I mentioned and linked in the same post you responded to :/

It does make perfect sense that he would say that. The Retro Engine, to us, the audience, is basically the go to classic Sonic engine. If you find it ridiculous and insulting that he didn't think to speculate about some other engine, even after he already said "pardon my ignorance", then you gotta get off your high horse.

You men are doing god's work anyway, official or not. I'm beyond excited to play when it's all done but more than willing to wait for it to take all the time it needs. I've been waiting 17 years for the next real Sonic game since I first played Sonic 3K as a kid and I'll be able to manage another one or two or three. I wish I could buy you all a round when it's out (or a coke if there's anyone in Team Megamix that doesn't drink).

    I do appreciate this part

This is the big one. You should appreciate everything he's said/asked. The way he has asked you questions and has taken a genuine interest in what you're doing should be incredibly gratifying to you and you should be humbled by the fact that people are interested. So he doesn't know the technical/business side of making video games, does this give you the right to get annoyed when he asks some pretty simple questions? Why should anyone bother asking questions or giving a shit about what you're doing if this is the way you're gonna respond to them? Dude, this is the internet, he could've said "boy this is the fucking gayest shit I ever seen and I seen a lotta gay ass shit" and then proceeded to tell you to kill yourself and that your family's gay, but instead he actually gives a shit and wants to know how your job works and how you do what you do.

Again, this is the internet, you can't exactly read the way someone else is saying something, but the way you responded to him came off as incredibly jerky.
  4. In Topic: Sonic 1 and 2 getting the Sonic CD treatment by Taxman and Stealth

I don't actually have any idea how SEGA's contract with Jackson and the other musicians worked, but having a reasonably good sense of business I can probably make some good assumptions.

First off, after what happened with Dreams Come True concerning Sonic 1 + 2 Sega should have definitely learned their lesson and wrote in the contract with Jackson that any work he does for Sega would then become the property of Sega. Its possible they compromised and instituted a "joint custody" clause where both parties could use the music, but there's no way SEGA would let the music slip through their hands again.

Second, disregarding Sonic and Knuckles Collection which seems to be the only exception, every Sonic 3 re-release has seen the original soundtrack intact. Sonic Jam, Sonic Mega Collection (+), XBLA/PSN/Virtual Console, Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection, Sonic Classic Collection, etc. all had the original music. Why would this be any different? Yes it is a remake, but so was Sonic Genesis for GBA which used the original Dreams Come True music, and we all know Sega was famous for refusing to pay the extreme licensing fees for those songs.

Lastly, Sonic Generations featured a few songs from Sonic 3, specifically the Big Arms theme (which in the credits of the OST is attributed to SEGA rather than any specific composer). Howard Drossin has stated multiple times that the credits for Sonic 3 were fuzzy and they don't actually know who made what, so they just flat credited everyone involved. If Sega truly didn't know who composed the specific Sonic 3 music and felt they could wind up in some legal trouble, they wouldn't use any tracks at all, but there are a few Sonic 3 tracks in both games.

It's been said numerous times that any involvement Jackson had with the game was left on the cutting room floor, and although there's tons of evidence proving otherwise, it doesn't matter because the official word is that Jackson was there very briefly and was removed from the project after the infamous scandal broke out. It's widely known that Jackson is a perfectionist and that if it wasn't released he doesn't want anyone hearing it, so regardless of if he worked on any of the final tracks or not he's officially disowned them. For the Jackson estate to come out and demand money for the music now would be admitting that he had anything to do with it in the first place, which probably wouldn't be worth it for them.

Unless someone with more information than me can tell me otherwise, I'm inclined to believe that the music rights aren't the problem here. Again I can be completely wrong about this, but it sounds pretty straightforward.
  5. In Topic: Why do YOU like Sonic games?

    15 July 2014 - 05:31 AM

Sonic, to me, represents the only time in my childhood that me and my brother weren't trying to kill each other. We HATED each other, but when it came to Sonic we were the best of friends. In recent years I've more or less lost interest in Sonic, even though I have a Sonic tattoo over my heart (so I can tell Nintendo fans they're not welcome at my dinner table), but now Sonic represents a great way for me to bond with my son. He just turned two and he loves Sonic just like I did when I was a kid, so I gave him all my sonic merch and begrudgingly opened up the figures I'd collected. I even gave him my Joyride Studios Shadow chase figure, which he takes to naptime with him every day.

Do I have any love for the Sonic franchise for what it is any more? No. I've outgrown Sonic, though I do still have a lot of fun with Generations and I'm excited to see what's coming out in the future, but when shit like Lost World comes out and Boom gets announced I don't get angry any more I just shake my head and keep it movin.
