  1. Sonic CD Musical Cake

    25 October 2008 - 11:39 PM

I was mentioning to Tweaker how I liked some tracks of Spencer Nilsen's equally with the Japanese OST for Sonic CD. I joked that to get the ultimate Sonic CD OST we need to get Naofumi Hataya and Spencer Nilsen in a room and make them collaborate.

    And then I found these...

  2. Request: Boss Behavioral Modification??

    07 November 2005 - 05:12 AM

Personally, I love the hacks released on these forums and others, I think everyone is doing a great job and I was particularly impressed recently by Stealth's Knux in S1 hack.

In playing Sonic the Hedgehog games as a kid I used to find Robotnik kinda hard but as I grew older I, as have many, can now defeat him pretty darn easily. He just isn't a challenge anymore.

So what I ask is that someone out there try to make him harder, and I don't mean by increasing the number of times we have to hit the ol' Doc. No, what I propose is the concept of modifying the very behavior of Dr. Robotnik and his sub-bosses across ALL THREE of the major Genesis games (Sonic 1, Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 & Knuckles)...

Some conceptual examples include a general speed increase to ALL boss encounters as well as some specialized ideas for some specifically:

Sonic 1 - Spring Yard: Robotnik wastes no time in dropping on your head when he hovers over to spike the block you're standing on, and literally FALLS on you.

Sonic 2 - Emerald Hill Boss: Robotnik's car is now capable of 0-60 in a split second, get ready to jump whenever he's on screen or you WILL be run over.

Sonic 2 - Metropolis Boss: When he fires his final laser beam once all the orbs are destroyed he will fire 5 beams each shot rather than one and take 2 hits to die at the end rather than one.

Sonic 3K - Mecha Sonic: He no longer just sits there and lets you pummel him between his attacks. The only time you can hit him now is when he's dashing back and forth in his slide attack, but he'll do it at the same speed the Emerald Hill boss moves at --- extremely fast. Super Mecha Sonic (the Knuckles boss) moves 2x as fast as it does now.

Sonic 3K - Death Egg Final Boss Part II-B (March of Battle Suit): Robotnik will charge the Master Emerald Laser Beam 3x as fast as normal and will also fire it randomly even if you don't hit the "nose" of the battle suit.

By the way, a version of Sonic 3 and Knuckles in which the Insta-Shield (double jump shield when no powerups are on Sonic) is completely disabled would be a challenge, since I rely on it way too much (killing Orbinauts and defeating Mecha Sonic, for starters). I would love to see Robotnik require nerves of steel, the kind of timing you'd need from say, Mega Man Zero 3. If any of these things are possible, count me into playing it.

It's been far too long since I've screamed in frustration at Doctor Ivo Robotnik, and I miss that feeling...
