Sorry for the necro, but out of curiosity, has anyone tried just asking Taxman for info on the format? He's been active on Sonic Retro before, so I don't see why he'd try and hide it.
I'm also curious why he doesn't release the editor here, so people can make their own levels and stuff. Just put in the license agreement that you aren't allowed to make an entire game with it and sell it without permission; that way he won't lose engine license sales. -

Will this be open-source? That would guarantee we don't have another situation like last time. -

InvisibleUp, on 03 December 2014 - 10:21 PM, said:This is all done in Lua scripting? Good job man, this is insanely impressive. Editing object data on the fly with a modern game like SA2 seems like no easy task, all the other bells and whistles you've added? I'm not sure how you did it, but I'm impressed.
There's also a bit of machine code (ASM source included) for parts that need to call functions in the games, but the vast majority of it is Lua. Thanks for the compliment! -

I just came across something kind of interesting. Look at this old SA2 hacking thread from 2004, in Google's cache. Press Ctrl+F and search for "default". Look at those last five lines of code (seven if you include blank lines) in that code block. Now look at this screenshot from one of the game's cutscenes, flipped upside-down:

Decided to add something new to the cheat table that makes very heavy use of that line drawing function. Now you don't need to type in numbers or use finicky keyboard controls to position/rotate objects. You can do it all using the gamepad.

(Yes, those cyan boxes are the invisible collision objects; which are made visible when this mode is activated.)
