Sonic DT-Feel Good Hit Of The Summer
23 July 2011 - 11:17 PM
This is what happens when BCND gets to drinking, plays some hacks, and decides its a GREAT idea to hack Sonic 2. Actual download coming somewhat soonish once I figure out how to get the piss waterfall colors to take hold in EHZ. I've tried to make what happens if Sonic were to go through Sonic 2 ripped out of his fucking mind on drugs. To answer your questions, yes, that is a lit joint that Coconuts is climbing on, and those are pill bottles you see there. This may well be a worthy successor to Sonic Paynt, considering my intentional lack of quality this time around?

Hacking and Windows 7
19 July 2011 - 09:46 PM
So I'm having issues with the SonED programs not working. Either SonED 1 or 2. I've had them both work for me before, when I was running Windows XP. Now, no good. I've tried running them in compatibility mode but the shit just crashes. ESE seems to be giving me difficulties with pallete changing and trying to edit art as well. Really, I'm just trying to edit art for a hack that should (hopefully) get some lulz. Anyone know of any tricks to make things work again in Windows 7, or do I need to dig out my old Windows XP laptop(or would the utilities run on a mac? My g/f has one that I'm sure she'd let me take over for a bit). -
My New Work(new art inside!)
04 June 2008 - 02:26 PM
Hey guys. I finally got the desire to work on more stuff for a hack. I got an idea after playing Columns on the Genesis for a level that was sort of a fusion between Marble Garden and Green Hill Zone(you'll notice the blocks are from the Columns borders...I'll give credit where its due) and I wanted to put up this very early version and get any feedback/constructive criticism on the art and stuff. I know I don't have a background in yet, that usually comes dead last for me. And I need to add more shit like pillars, plants, put in things that break the monotony of the blocks, etc. Just for now though I've got this and want to see what you all are feeling on it:

This time around I'm not going to put any timetables on myself and say "I'll have it out this day". I'm just going to work when I feel like it, if I finish the level in 6 weeks, great, if its 6 months, OK, if its a year, OK. Last time I did that I got burned out, and that, and the loss of some stuff in a computer crash in late 2006(always back up your shit, kids) made me not want to do much with making new levels for the past year and a half. I just sort of found the drive again, so we'll see where it takes me. -
More new art

Which one do you think looks better? (and I plan on changing the running surface at some point, rather than having the same brick throughout. Otherwise it'll be a bit boring) -
I've had it and I know this may piss some off

Seriously, I'm gonna go fucking nuts if I see another strictly pallet/layout only hack be advertised this week. I know people are new and all and you all want to encourage them, but it is NOT that hard to find your way around SonED for drawing art, and I think its time to hold hacks to a higher standard.
I guarantee you I'm going to start ruffling feathers with my attitude toward those new to hacking(and granted, I'm not the absolute king of hacking, but I can at least make my way around SonED and figure out minor hex editing, as well as know before I put something out if the pallete is going to easy on the eyes and fitting) , but seriously, recently things have been going downhill. Its been nothing but a wave of new people putting out pallet hacks that really don't take that much effort at all.
The last truly good pallet hacks(sans major technical advance) in my opinion were Sonic 2-Aluminum Edition, and Tohaka.. I figured out much of SonED in my first 2 months of hacking(granted I didn't know about a handful of features til somewhat recently, but they were never needed by me til this summer),and I never put out a pallet hack once, even in my early days. I remember I was re-arranging CNZ for like a week's period of time then I figured out art editing and the rest is history. Not once did I really advertise a pallet hack.
I can see a lot of oldbie's arguements that this place is going downhill. Newbies are coming in and have such a hard time with SonED, possibly one of the most fundamental tools of Sonic hacking. I do doubt that you all are going to all of a sudden demand better of the new folks, but I just want to put it out right now that I'm getting fed up, and if we keep getting pallet hack after pallet hack, I might not be around as much if people just want to let it go downhill and not adopt somewhat tougher minimum standards.
Its one thing to not change art, but accomplish something big, such as put a new character in, or change the music(Tweaker's hack). Its another to change layout, slap some cheap bad future or winter pallet on zones and then be like OMG HAX 4 DUN!!!111!!(Exaggeration,but you get my point). At this point I really don't care who's shitlist I end up on for this or who I offend. I'm fed up with it.
