In Topic: Cycle accurate Mega Drive emulation
06 June 2013 - 02:44 PM
I was so happy to find out that there's a Sega Genesis emulator with a debugger which doesn't suck.
....But of course, there's always something wrong. The emulator needs a 64-bit processor and OS. I was kinda sad about that, since I only wanted to use it for debugging purposes, where I won't need any smooth gameplay, knowing that I won't be able to use it as a emulator to play games on. Any hopes for some kind of 32-bit version or maybe a different emulator but with a debugger which is not clunky (I find Regen's debuggers clunky - why can't I directly choose a location in memory)? -

Well, that's a very interesting discovery. I wonder if you can modify the signal that is sent out of the VDP into the TV using software, as I've seen it being done in a C128 demo Risen From Oblivion in the VIC part, where it altered the FIXED palette of the VIC-II(The VDC used in C64 and C128) by screwing with a bit in a specific way. -

Well, since you have a real good hand at making user friendly interfaces it would be cool to have a tool which is more drag'n'drop and less key combinations.
I also came up with a name for it: "Tiles Prower". -

After this I don't know if I'll be able to listen to the 1UP jingle anymore!
You succeeded at annoying me, so your efforts are shown.

XD375, on 16 October 2011 - 07:03 PM, said:TEXT This contains a .txt file containing all the text in the game. I changed Takashi Iizuka's name to Shane Marchis and upon playing the game, all the text was gone and the game froze before a level would load. What gets really weird is that when I changed it back to Iizuka, these problems still existed, so it seems any attempt to modify the text, even if reversed, will destroy the game.
Well, you could've saved it in a wrong text format, since there's a lot of them (UTF-8 and Unicode for example). Try modifying it using a Hex Editor since Hex Editors won't change the formating and will keep all the unmodified bytes intact. Seriously, try opening a rom with notepad, resave it and well... your rom's broken.
