You know what? I wish those protos were still in that guy's hands, and now I also wish I didn't donate my money for them (¹), seeing how things are going.

For Tweaker / Scarred Sun / whoever with an orange name: please remove my Tech and Sysop priviledges and lock/ban/whatever my account. I'm done with Sonic Retro. This time for real.

Where the hell did that come from? You're mad, and you'd rather we not get any protos at all because you can't host something that's already got enough mirrors as it is? There has to be more to this that I'm missing, because that sounds like a piss-poor excuse for ostracizing yourself.

nineko, you're making a fool out of yourself on the way out, that's completely ridiculous. I feel sorry for you, throwing a fit over torrents and all that... Way to go man. Good luck in life. :(

Torrent is a fantastic distribution method that evens out the load between everyone, I don't understand what the problem is.

While it may "even out the load" it is a piss slow method, one in which I am sure not many people like or enjoy (like myself).

Agreed. And they're even slower if there are few torrents as the download becomes ethernal. Which is why I want a lot of torrents up just to speed it up. But torrents have a big advantage: they're quite good for download lots of files at once like in this case.

You've got to be kidding me. Torrents are in no way slower than other types of file sharing. It's because you have a crappy connection and you can't configure your client properly torrents are slow for you =P

They're slower than directly downloading from a server as normal. That's what he means.

God, some of you guys suck at the internet. May you all just wait, we'll all get 50+kbps download speeds, it's pretty much a guarantee.

Wait, I'm confused. What's wrong with people setting up mirrors after they finish the torrent? I mean, it's not like anyone can stop them.

The torrent should be the "official" means of distribution. Hell, even if you don't want every ROM, you can tell your torrent client to pick and choose what to download.

Why should mirroring be an issue? If someone really wants to, like Tweaker said, nothing's going to stop them. This is an epic day. Let's not step on each other here.

I don't say to not do the mirrors, in fact do it. But don't shut down your torrents for a while to speed for some time to speed things up. That's it.

Torrents aren't any slower than direct download. If you config your connection corretly, torrents work just as well (if not better) and distribute the weight evenly amongst all downloaders. It's a more effective method and lets you download lots of files at once. It also allows those who want a lot of (but not every) ROMs to pick and choose which ones they want and download them all simultaneously.

By the way, while I don't have anything to offer in the way of hosting, I have a decent connection and will seed this until my eyes bleed.
