This looks like it could be a 32X game, that would be impressive almost beyond belief. And I wonder how close you could get to this on the Genesis with clever use of palettes and dithering. As a PC game... it's still pretty awesome.

I was wondering this too. A lot of those graphics could be put into a ROM pretty easily.

Some of the foregrounds maybe, but you'll definetly lose alot of detail in the backgrounds. The color count on the Tails image in Final Fall Zones tops at 464 colors. After removing the Hud elements and the Tails sprite, it comes up to a total of 166 colors used. Reduced to 64 and we get something like this, which actually doesn't look that bad compared to the original:
Edit: after more missing around, this could possibly done.

It's a nice idea and all, but I made these graphics for Sonic XG, and that's were they're staying. =P

This is quite simply looking to be a masterpiece!! Like others were saying, if the 32X were a successful platform, this would fit perfectly on it. Imagine how beautiful a 2-D Sonic game on a next-gen system would be. I know Sega would never do it (well there's Rush but I'm talking at least PSP power), unless they release a new game on the X-Box Arcade. Anywho...sorry to change the topic. I'll be looking forward to seeing your continued work on this game and am hoping to one day try out a demo of it.

Those aren't Genesis colors. There are only 8 possible brightness levels per RGB component, and you can't get such a soft background with that small a range of colors. You could get close though.
Here's a different screenshot done with 3 palette lines (1 for HUD stuff and sprites, 1 for background water and sky, 1 for foreground and part of background) of strictly Genesis colors:
And part of another, using 1 palette line:

Yeah, I used some genesis palletes in Photoshop to see how they would look and they look fine, although considering my PC is a piece of shit and Photoshop loves to lag the rest of my computer during the saving process I didn't bother to save any images, which is why I just added the edit, though we are derailing his thread if we keep wondering if his awesome art fits in a SEGA Genesis.
Which is totally awesome by the way.

Like everyone said, this looks gorgeous. I especially love Palm Paradiso zone.
What will you do about the musics? Make new ones or re-use some from the games?
And how far is this game completed?

that too is something I am intersted in. One thing I loves about mah old sonic games was the music. Hopefully it isn't an after thought for this either.

Some music is slight remixes of some lesser used sonic tunes as well as music from all sorts of other games.
And like I said, the graphics are for SXG, please don't take over the thread for making this about working them into using genesis colours.

I don't understand the infatuation with making this into a genesis game. Wouldn't this run better standalone? And besides, that would ruin what is essentially a very beautiful piece of art.
And Zonik, I know you said "this year", but do you have some sort of guess as to when it would be released, and is there any possibility of a PSP port?

That's simply the best retro Sonic fangame I have ever seen, hands down.
The graphics are very refreshing but still faithful to the classic Sonic style.
You're really gonna spread joy once you can release a finished bugfree version of this masterpiece.
I bow to your awesomeness. :worship:
