Either way I hope the game is either really good or really bad. At least really bad I can enjoy ironically or through mocking it.

IIRC this is also being developed by the Generations team, which gives it nearly 5 years of development time.
I'll be dumbfounded if this game is awful.

I had the same rationale when they first announced Sonic Lost World. I was very wrong.
Hoping this isn't the case this time.

I've never even heard something like that was even a rumor. Probably goes far back before I stumbled upon this franchise ('07).

Iizuka was asked about this rumour at the Summer of Sonic 2012 and he said he didn't know anything about. I think the interview is still on YouTube.
David the Lurker provided a good summary of the source in this link. Basically, it came from the Official US Dreamcast magazine.

Found these at a car boot sale this morning. I vaguely remembered owning one of these as a kid but could never find any info on what it was. Now I have one I looked up the copyrighted company on the back and found it is from a collection of small rubber figures called P.E.T (Pocketsize Extra Tiny) Aliens, and this particular figure is called 'Cynic'.

The fuck? Someone (probably at SEGA) hacked the official Sonic The Hedgehog twitter. I can tell because these replies are VERY UNUSUAL.

Yeah, the absurdity of these tweets is really eclipsing the content they were tweeting before.

So I'm watching So You Think You Can Dance and I just heard a dope techno remix of Sonic 2's boss theme. Unfortunately by the time I got my phone out to record it, it was over. I'll see if I can find it somewhere. Now I'm listening to Justin Bieber. :| I'll try and get a clip as soon as I can. I think this station has online viewing after an episode airs.
Edit: I'm watching it to get some moves for the ladies
. I'm kidding. Dancing is a lot better than injecting drugs or eating three pizzas in one sitting.

I used to have one of these. Tried painting it blue with warhammer paint...didn't end well.

I've just noticed something about the Sonic 1 SMS/GG ending...

How is his head supposed to be moving there? It's kind of... pulsating in place without actually tilting. o_O
I guess the shading gave a better illusion of Sonic's head moving up and down on CRT TVs...
By the way, an old version of that background has just been found:

More repetitive decorations, different shadow and more detailed frame bolts.
