This is faster, easier, and free in comparison to the other "hack."
It tweaks your localhost file rather than DNS.

It's as easy as copying or editing a file on your computer. It'll only work if your Wii connects to the internet through your computer though!


Manual explanation:

Open up the file "hosts" in notepad.

See this part?

127.0.0.1	   localhost

Change it to:

127.0.0.1	   localhost
72.41.109.2	 oss.shop.wii.com

Make sure the "localhost" and "oss.shop.wii.com" line up!

When you load the Wii shop channel my webspace slingshots to google. Amazing!
Now running perfect on my official WiFi dongle!

Thank you, sir. I'm pretty sure some minor tweaks will be needed for the European version, I doubt the Shop Channel will try to connect to the same site. Not much of a problem.

Also, I might use someone else's portal for the navigation functionality, but I'm lazy.

This could be used to point the Wii shop channel to japan or europe's shop channel, so more VC titles available!

What I think is that with the Wii being connected to the Internet, firmware updates can be downloaded (and installed) instantly when they're released by Nintendo. They are probably aware of this browser hack already, and have put some added protection in the firmware to stop you abusing it like this.

What was the function of this hack anyway? To use the Wii's browser without paying for it on the Shop channel? To load homebrew apps easily?

Also, is the Wii browser on the Shop channel a one-time purchase, or do you pay a monthly subscription to keep using it? Or is it (horror of horrors) billed per minute, like when you use wi-fi at public hotspots?
