I'm aiming to make a decent release before I ever work on my hack again. After that, I'll probably get back to work on the hack.

EDIT: EDIT2: *insert dumb explanation that is redundant now*

Well, I've started sound dumping some music for this game, through Gens+. Currently the music is as follows:

Green Hill: Door into Summer. I forget which ripped I used... a Chaotix rip, or a rip from Sonic3K Megamix

Hidden Palace: I dumped the music from Dark Fortress Act 3 in Sonic 1 Megamix. I can't place my finger on the music's original game, and I'd like to get the original music.

Sol Sanctum*: Sol Sanctum music from Golden Sun. It's too good to pass up. In fact, that's where I got the name. =P

Carnie City: Spring Stadium 1. It sounds pretty good already, the only slight problem is the beginning on the lower quality. It's barely noticible to those who aren't 'trained' in music stuffs.

All of the music is in MP3 format, and doesn't interfere with the frame rate. Probably cause I cut down on the quality of the sound, down to 64 Kbits, or whatever. The difference is a bit difficult to spot, but it cuts the file size by 3/4, a grace for me. =P

* Sol Sanctum is the resting place of the sol emeralds in this fan game, if anyone's wondering. Yes, I do plan on incorporating some Rush story elements into this. However, never playing rush has put a damper on my knowledge of the story line.

Well, I'll upload a few updated screens here.

The basics to Green Hill Zone. Those who followed my hack will recognize the art. The trees from my now scrapped South Island Zone, and the general GHZ theme.

Showing the top of a loop and Super Sonic again. I don't have the full loop cause it's just "floating" there, with no art connecting it to the rest of the level.

This definetly looks nice. :worship: I'm probably going to sound like a turd for this, but in your hack version of DX, what happened with Sonia & Manic?

They disappeared, as I wanted to start over with just Sonic. Then, I eventually added Tails and Amy(somewhat).

I don't know why I never put those two back in to the hack. I probably have the needed skills to do so now, but I won't try it again.

Oh man I have got the greatest suggestion for invincibility music. I'll AIM send the MP3 to you if you'd like.

Heh, sure, I guess. =P Sometimes my AIM craps out and doesn't work, even though I'm still connected to aol, so I might not be readily available.

I finally did figure out where the music came from for Tweaker's Dark Fort 3, but I like his version better. =P

EDIT Again: pics now in my sig. The current ones are, in case you're wondering:
'shot6.png': Showing the screen fade in from black. Single shots don't do the justice though... It's not a night-time screenshot, though I have thought of a time system.
'shot7.png': Sonic running the loop, also showing the star shaped bushes from Palmtree Panic.
'shot8.png': Super Sonic walking, Sonic Advance style.

I've decided to make a small release today, featuring Green Hill(the start of it, anyway) and it's music. The main reason I'm making this release is that I want your opinion on my camera physics. I can't make a decent video, as the frame rate gets screwed up, and obviously, still frames never do justice. Just run into the wall near the end of the level at top speed to see what I'm talking about.

yay for screenshots. =P

Also, I'm aware that this isn't very neat looking, as the window size gets changed and all, the title card is off center... But, it's a beta. I don't need it 100% flawless just yet.

The download is the first link you come across on this site.

Have fun, and I'm mainly looking for opinions on the camera. Also, press enter twice on the title screen to start the game. Space bar is jumping, cause I haven't changed it to any other keys yet.

Oh yeah, forgot about this. Well, the link you PM'd me didn't work, cause I was using aohell(what the hell, I can upload...). Well, my buddy list is fixed up and unblocked, so feel free to IM me anytime.

Just a tip - I'd correct the title card and stuff now, because you'll either forget or it'll be a big buildup of little things later which you won't want to bother fixing.

I find that it's better to have the attitude that you should make it as best as you can while you go along, rather than "it's a beta, I can do it later" =P

Well, it's fixed now, as well as a bunch of other stuff. So, ehh. =P

I still suggest you use the newer engine build: the code is overall a lot better, and also comes with various examples: Basic movement (the 360º engine itself), Animation system, crouch down, roll and spindash, delayed keydata (if you want to make a tails like AI) and a Ring Loss routine kinda like the one of the originals (methinks).

Anyway, pretty cool job with what you already have ^^

Thanks for the offer, but I really like what you and McDIzzY did with this engine. I'm completely comfortable with it.

Ehh, not to be pushy or anything, but this I want to emphasize what I wanted when I made that release. So far, not a single comment about the camera, anywhere I go. =P

Also, I did quite a bit of work on this today.

I've put in the EHZ background. It's not an acurate representation of the background, but it's damn good enough. I've got down basic rippling, which I never thought I could do, so heh, I've impressed myself. =P The only bad part is, the flowers don't move like they do in Sonic 2.

Not much of an update, but I'll show off a new Tails sprite, standing next to Sonic.

Posted Image
Tails is a bit taller, not to mention he has eye shades. Also, he's lighter, Adventure style. Comments? EDIT: I'll have to darken a few of his darker shades, as he seems sort of Cell-shaded somewhat now.

Also, about those 2 numbers below the hud, those are the Camera X and Camera Y coordinates. It's still left over from a death sequence I wished to add. They serve no purpose anymore, and the death sequence hasn't been added. Right now, it's Mario-esque, you just fall down the hole and continue going for a few seconds. =P
