I'm amused that Mr. Senn created the demo in the 3MB GIF based on Stardust Speedway Bad Future. The two seem to have nothing in common. I fail to see the resemblance.

Correction—There are some elements to the song that were not in the original version. Interesting...

No, you've seen Metal Sonic in videos. No evidence at all that that model is anything other than a sample model.

I really love what you have done here, HXC.

S2B -> HXCSXTreme
XD

These Tiara concepts are nice. For once, there is colors... And I don't know why, but this "Special Stage" reminds me Sonic Labyrinth. Yes, by seeing this, the gameplay idea seems not that good.

It may not be from extreme directly, but it's almost certainly the same model. Comparisons between it and the screen shots are almost too clear to deny.

Now, if you mean that that particular version (texturing and whatever minor tweaks were done to it) was not used in Extreme, then yeah, I can see what you mean. But the fact that it is almost identical raises questions about the rest of the Sonic-related 3D things found in that dev-kit. They may not be from Extreme, but might have come from the same era.

Another possible scenario is that the model seen in the Extreme screens was just a place-holder and was default from a Saturn dev-kit. However, given what Fang looked like, I would say that the model seen is almost certainly the final (in whatever way an unfinished game could be 'final') version.

I think you're clutching at straws. There's no direct connection between the model in the devkit and the model we see in Xtreme stuff.

Except that the two models are almost identical, save only for the texturing and lighting.

Even the second image you linked to shows that very distinctly. The body is nearly the same shape and the head and eyes as well. If we had clearer images, it would be more obvious, but sadly we don't. If I had access to that model, I could prove it by superimposing it over the screenshots. I would lay any money you like that they would match near perfectly.

I'm not trying to imply and great deep philosophical meaning to it, just pointing out that the models seem too similar to be unrelated. This doesn't mean that the Sonic model has to be from Xtreme at all, or even that the land section is either. At first I thought the Sonic model might be the same one from the demo animation, but after looking at it again, I realized it wasn't.

As a matter of fact... *opens Photoshop*

Here, is this connection enough?

As I said, nearly identical.

Sorry, I'm still not buying it. There's numerous small vertex differences which IMO would be consistent with making a new model in the likeness of the original. (If I ask you to try to redraw a line from memory then chances are your line will not be completely accurate to mine.)

In any case I won't be COMPLETELY convinced until Senn et al tells us they used it, or I've compared their model with it in some 3D editor. =P

You're just being pedantic now, the 'final' model is clearly based on that devkit model, the head is almose identical, who said they didnt tweak it a little? Besides this topic was about Tiara not MS.

My pedantry is justified. Of course they'll look similar, regardless of whether one is based on the other or not - they're both trying to depict Metal Sonic. "Tweaking" would not justify shifting a vertex making e.g. one of the spikes on the head just a little bit. Had they edited the devkit model then all changes would be justified, e.g. to make the arm longer to incorporate some new feature they wanted to add.

Awesome. A couple of the badniks in that demo video can be seen with the enemy sprites that we already have.
